After the huge contribution that she has made over many years, to the Friends in general and the Fair in particular, Sally Seneschall stepped down from the committee in February. Happily, she kindly agreed to do the February Quiz Night one last time, which was a terrific success. Grant Anthony, our Treasurer, also stepped down, handing over to Deborah Goodwin, with Brad Hitch and Stefan Gruffat acting as deputies. In the summer term Ron Street (OA 1953-59), who has been involved with the FDC in various capacities for very many years, latterly as Honorary Vice-President, handed over to Dr Colin Niven (OA 1952-60). Finally, and also after many years of service, Jacqui Macdonald Davis stepped down as her son came to the end of Year 13. We shall greatly miss their contributions. The first FDC Christmas Fair without Sally at the helm was navigated successfully, thanks to the enormous contributions of too many to mention individually by name (but under the helm of the tireless Helen Downey). This year’s Fair raised nearly £20,000, divided between external charities and the Friends, while the Nearly New Shop, as a result of the hard work of Moyra Horseman and Catrin Waugh, has raised nearly £10,000. The FDC committee, acting on behalf of the whole membership, will set to work in 2015 distributing that money in grants, with the primary aim of extending the opportunities available at the College out as widely as possible so that as many as possible can benefit.
interest group, at which Peter Susman QC (OA 1953-61) was guest speaker. In May Sir Peter Bazalgette (OA 1962-71) was guest speaker at the inaugural gathering of the OAs in Arts and Media group, hosted by Michael Kennard (OA 1961-68) at the Concert Artistes’ Association in Covent Garden. We are also grateful to the following OAs who organised events which the Master and/or President of the Alleyn Club attended in 2013-14: Jerrold Alexander (OA 1947-57), Michael Atterton (OA 1953-58), Chris Austen (OA 1952-59), Richard Evans (OA 1987-95), David Hicks (OA 1951-59), Will Lewis (OA 1954-65), Michael Lynfield (OA 1969-74), Group Captain Derek North DL (OA 1956-63) and Anil Scott (OA 1986-91). Special thanks must also be given to the members of the Alleynian Sailing Society, led by Honorary Secretary Anthony Frankford (OA 1962-69), for their continuing support for sailing at the College through the annual Boys Sail Training Week held in July. 2014 was another busy year for the FDC, with changes to the committee and a review of how the Friends can best serve the College: parents, staff, current and former pupils, and the local community.
