itual maturity. He will bring to our remembrance those things which will cause us to mature in the faith. Here is the promise, too, of divine inspiration for the writers of the New Testament. Out of the eleven some were chosen to write the Word of God. Certainly those who wrote years later could not have reproduced all the details, remem­ bering the words of Christ accur­ ately, unless the Holy Spirit had given them the necessary recall. This is why we believe the Bible clearly teaches verbal inspiration. The disciples were promised the right and the privilege of supernat­ ural accuracy in relating the truths concerning the Saviour. This places New Testament writers on the same level of inspiration as the prophets of the Old. Men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. All Scrip­ ture has been given by inspiration of God. This is the vital key to our faith. To give up inspiration would mean to give up the accuracy of the Bible itself. The legacy of liber­ alism is the sick church which be­ gan its fatal illness when inspira­ tion was denied. Tragically, that is the organization that will populate hell. Liberal rationalism decided Scripture was full of mistakes. All the miracles and supernatural ac­ tivities had to be removed. In the process they took out Christ Him­ self. Later there came efforts to re­ discover who He was in the classi­ cal quest for the historical jesus. Francis Schaeffer declares, "Mod­ ern theological men were trapped between their brain and their hearts.
