05 - Biotechnology Basics: My First Electrophoresis
Scenario A: Visualizing the Dye Gel
dH 2 O
IF VISUALIZING A DYE GEL: 1. SLIDE the gel off the casting tray onto the white viewing surface of the transil - luminator. Dyes should appear as colorful bands on a light background. 2. PHOTOGRAPH the results. 3. REMOVE and DISPOSE of the gel and CLEAN the transilluminator surfaces with distilled water.
PATERNITY TESTING SIMULATION USING DYE ELECTROPHORESIS
The low molecular weight band (red) in the child's DNA profile is not present in the mother's DNA profile, meaning that it must be contributed by the father. This band is only found in Father 1, suggesting he is the father.
