As our Estates Manager – Independent Schools,youwillworkcloselywithournetwork ofSchoolBusinessManagerstomanageour Independent School properties across the Group. You will also liaise closely with Head Teachers, our other Estates Managers who focusonourexpandingacademiesportfolio and external consultants. This is a role which I expect to be challenging but also deeply rewarding for an excellent estates professional who is looking for a new challenge with the potential to make a significant impact.

JOB DESCRIPTION
▪ STANDARDS–Developstandardsforaccommodation, design and construction to deliver national and UnitedLearningrequirementstoensurecompliance to educational needs, flexibly, extendibility, low maintenance and low running costs. PROPERTY MANAGEMENT ▪ MAINTENANCE – Review existing maintenance procedures and records. Develop management plansandbudgetsforlocalmanagementandcentral monitoring. Contribute to the development of procedures relating to backlog maintenance. PROJECT DELIVERY ▪ Managethecapitalschemeprogrammeintermsof time,costandqualityfortheIndependentSchools. ▪ EnsurethatboththeSchool’sandUnitedLearning’s project requirements are translated into coherent, achievable and agreed briefs. ▪ Adviseontechnical,pragmaticandpracticalsolutions toenduserrequirementstoensuretheoverallproject objectives are achieved. ▪ Assist the schools and the Group to manage procurement processes for professional services, constructionactivitiesandequipment/goodstocomply with Group procedures and procurement law. ▪ Reviewworkloadandplanoutprogrammesforeach schemeandrelatetoprogrammesofworkforother schemes within the Group. ▪ Understandandinterprettheimplicationsofplanning, building and listed building legislation. ▪ Workwithothersandcontributetotheassessment ofbidsfromacademiesandtheallocationofcapital monies. ▪ Liaise with the Independent Schools on all capital expenditure. ▪ Checkthatallworkhasbeenproperlyplannedandis inaccordancewiththeschools,andtheGroup’s,five- yearplanandtheforwardmaintenancelifecycleplan. ▪ Assess and monitor the health and safety impact of projectsbefore,duringandatcompletiontoensurea safeworkingenvironmentisprovidedforallconcerned andthatUnitedLearningcomplieswithitsobligations underappropriatelegislation(e.g.CDMregulations). ▪ Visiteachschooltocheckontheprogress/completion of the works. ▪ Check and approve applications for payment. ▪ Liaise with the ESFA (or other external bodies as

COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS INTERNAL ▪ HeadofEstates,AcademyEstatesManagers,Energy Manager. ▪ SchoolcontactswithintheGroup,inparticularHeads/ Principals,BusinessManagersandFacilitiesManagers. ▪ Director of Independent Schools. ▪ CEO / CFO. ▪ Group Committees when appropriate. EXTERNAL ▪ ProfessionalorganisationsworkingwiththeGroupi.e. Architects, surveyors etc. ▪ Contractors. ▪ ESFA/Government Bodies. SCOPE FOR IMPACT ▪ Regularlyreviewingthepropertymanagementprocess and recommending changes. ▪ Ensuringcustomerandpropertydataisalwayskeptup to date. ▪ Ensuring that sustainability and environmental improvements are promoted and implemented wherever possible. ▪ Ensuring compliance with all legislation such as planning permission, building control and CDM regulations. ▪ ContributiontothedevelopmentofEstatesprocedures and processes.

Overview To liaise with Heads, Bursars/Business Managers and FacilitiesManagerstoidentifyprioritiesandoverseethe estatescapitalinvestmentplanforIndependentSchools, including the allocation and monitoring of centrally- providedfunding,andtoensurethatschemesarebriefed, designed,developedandbuiltwithinstrictbudgetary constraints. Job Location The role will be home based and will include regular traveltoindependentschoolswithintheUnitedLearning Group(currently13schoolsmostlybasedintheSouth East). Regular travel to Central Offices (Peterborough, London) is also essential. ▪ GROUP DEVELOPMENT – Liaison with Education Directors,DfE,ESFAandlocalauthoritiesrenewand expanding schools. ▪ SUSTAINABILITY – Review energy usage and generationanddeveloppolicyandimplementation proposals (in conjunction with others). ▪ INVESTMENT–Develop,monitorandmanagecapital and maintenance expenditure plans. ▪ TRAINING–Developguidance,advisorynotesand training forums for colleagues dealing with Estates suchasschool/academyBusinessManagers,building managers etc. ▪ NATIONALPOLICIESANDSTANDARDS–Reviewand adviseontheimpactofevolvingeducationalpremises legislation. Represent and contribute to relevant interestorpolicygroupsonbehalfofUnitedLearning where appropriate. Key Responsbilities STRATEGIC ▪ MARKET STANDARDS – In conjunction with others,reviewtheemergingstandardsandservices of similar organisations and make appropriate recommendationstoensuredevelopmentofmarket position. ▪ CONTRACTS–Reviewexistingcontractsforservices, works and material supply. Develop a quality and value-basedframeworkforservices,contractorsand suppliers.

ESSENTIAL • You will come from a capital programme/ facilities management background, includingprogrammemanagement,asset and estate management. • Team player. • Good organisation skills including the ability to multi-task. • Excellent attention to detail. • First rate of communication and interpersonal skills. • Professional, confident video conferencing/telephone manner. • Ability to remain calm under pressure. DESIRABLE • Ideallyprofessionallyqualified(RICS,APM, RIBA or equivalent) and should have a strong interest in the education estate. • Previous experience within a schools environment is preferred. • The post-holder may also be asked to supporttheGroup’sinvolvementinthe FreeSchoolprogrammeandknowledgeof this would be advantageous.
