2022 APEGA Annual Report

DRIVING ALBERTA FORWARD

UNIVERSITY We support post-secondary engineering and geoscience students on their journey to becoming APEGA professionals through our university outreach programs. •We launched the Mentoring Café in 2022 to connect students with volunteer professionals for informal, 30-minute virtual chats. Experienced members share advice with students on succeeding in their chosen fields. •We hold industry mixers and skills development webinars to help students prepare for the future. •Our annual Ethics Workshop provides graduating students guidance on professionalism, their regulatory responsibilities, and APEGA licensing requirements. ROCK & FOSSIL CLINIC We dug deep and transformed our 29th annual Rock & Fossil Clinic, held on October 1. Joining forces with 18 geoscience organizations from across Alberta— including museums, universities, and societies—we offered an exciting mix of virtual and in-person events. Together with our partners and volunteers, we helped students, parents, and educators explore the wonders of geoscience. Activities included: •a geoscience game show, geohunts, lab and museum tours, and nature walks exploring local geology •guest panellists who shared thought-provoking stories about their geoscience career adventures •a behind-the-scenes look at dinosaur fossil excavation and the chance to touch a rock from outer space •as always, rock and fossil identification by geoscientists and geoscience outreach partners
