Comparative Literature at the University of California at Irvine and taught at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, before moving to Tucson with her husband to teach at the University of Arizona. Her passions include gardening, yoga, tai chi, ceramics, and hikes in the Tucson Mountains. After retiring, she pursued her interest in learning watercolor and drawing at The Drawing Studio. She also likes to experiment with ceramics (art tiles) and watercolor because both mediums have the element

of the unexpected: the way glazes run and combine and watercolor with its similar ability to flow and create organic forms. Both watercolor and ceramics as mediums inspire her because of the way they can express the tension and beauty of chaos and order found in the natural world.
