must be considered, including disruption to critical services, inconvenience to building users, availability of appropriately skilled operatives, delivery of parts and materials etc • The post holder will be expected to take the lead as necessary in dealing with incidents and breakdowns resulting from carbon reduction activities, involving several team operatives or other service providers. • The key aspect of the post holders work will be the evaluation of how complex interconnected building services work, where problems with current operation occur and where changes can be made to improve efficient operation. There will often be competing priorities to balance, and the post holder will need to draw conclusions for available and self-sourced data. • The post holder in conjunction with the senior Sustainability Controls Engineer will formulate and deliver actions to reduce carbon and cost, providing evidence from first principles for these changes to enable the tracking of savings over future years. This will require significant technical experience, analysing disparate data sets, interpreting this data and finding outcomes that reduce carbon and cost. • The post holder will recommend changes to existing protocols and procedures to heads of service within the Estates teams relating to building services and the delivery of carbon and cost savings. Where no procedures exist, the postholder will develop new procedures for senior management approval. Continuous Improvement • The post holder will assist the Senior Sustainability Controls Engineer to aim

to reduce carbon emissions as well as associated utility costs by up to 20% through efficient operational control and, set out a costed and prioritised plan for the delivery of energy efficiency measures within 75% of the building stock, leading to a further 20% reduction in carbon emissions. This equates to £3 to £6million of utility costs. • The post holder will be expected to recommend for approval, plans for training and organise staff training to ensure other members of the Estates teams understand carbon actions taken and how to maintain the output from these measures. They will be expected to develop robust succession plans with relevant estates teams and work to ensure estates staff are up to date on all training requirements including making sure all risk assessments and workspace information is valid and available to their teams and contractors. • The post holder will be expected to maintain a high level of technical competence by self-identifying training needs, utilising free opportunities where possible or providing costed options for inclusion within departmental budgets when available. • The post holder will be familiar with industry best practice and will endeavour to identify opportunities and practical solutions that will enhance the carbon reduction delivery model. • The post holder will establish a network of contact with colleagues in similar roles to explore opportunities to share knowledge and on the job learning with a view to developing proposals for improvement to the operational delivery.

Accountability • The post holder will work autonomously leading and managing resources by example, setting a high standard for performance that always engenders the organisational values and EFCS management principles. • The post holder will supervise resources for carbon and cost reduction delivery of actions to a range of building services, systems, infrastructure, plant, equipment and building fabric. • The post holder will manage and monitor the performance of carbon measures; utilising CAFM and HVAC systems for purposes of effective work and consultant management. They will be expected to oversee their resource productivity and report on to be agreed SLA’s and KPI’s that will form part of the broader carbon reduction performance wider members of the Estates team where improvements to carbon management can be made. Dimensions of the role • The post holder will be expected to operate, report, and forecast on any agreed and delegated budgets and recommend to the Head of Sustainability budgetary needs and provide clarity regarding carbon reduction expenditure. They will also be responsible for reporting and highlighting in a timely fashion potential overspends or underspends across their functional areas of responsibility and develop solutions to mitigate financial risks that may emerge. The role will play a key supporting function in assisting the Head of Sustainability assemble budgets, forecast, and dashboard, targeting and addressing underperformance and highlighting to

profile expenditure on energy efficiency and good housekeeping measures. • The post holder in conjunction with the Senior Sustainability Controls Engineer is expected to manage an annual budget for daily activity of around £200k and to provide business cases for approval for investments of between £1 and £5million per annum and to manage investments funds in conjunction with Capital Projects. • The post holder will manage and monitor resource performance dealing with stakeholder issues, complaints and requests as required. They will be expected to oversee their resources productivity and report on SLA’s and KPI’s that will form part of the broader carbon reduction performance dashboard, targeting and addressing underperformance and creating actions plans as required. • A key function of the post will be to support the controls systems team across all their functional areas and act as the single point of contact owning and taking responsibility for resolving arising challenges. Communication will be a key function of this role and the post holder will be expected to demonstrate a highly proactive approach when interfacing with stakeholders and students. The Helpdesk will form a key part of the operational interface for the delivery of carbon reduction and the post holder will be able to demonstrate a deep level of understanding the benefits and support this function plays in the successful and effective conveyance of communication to key stakeholders.
