Despite the rain, people came out to L’Orignal Park toenjoyabarbecue, inflatable structures, birthday cake, and celebrate Canada’s 148th birthday. Residents came out in limited numbers, on Wednesday, to celebrate Canada as well as the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag. The L’Orignal volunteer fire fighters put on a fantastic barbecue for all who attended the event. Teens and kids of all ages enjoyed the inflatable structures even though it was raining. Celebrations throughout the region and the nation kept people in party mode for the big day. Hawkesbury, St-Eugene, Alexandria, and many other municipalities in the region celebrated the day in a big way.

Rachel Villeneuve was helping out at the inflatable structure during the Canada Day celebrations in L’Orignal Park. Kids didn’t seem to mind the rain.

La pluie n’a pas découragé les participants à la parade de la Fête du Canada à St-Eugène, le long de la rue Labrosse. Celle-ci a fait de nombreux heureux installés des deux côtés de la route pour l’occasion.

L’Unifolié sous la pluie

Les pluies abondantes du 1 er juillet ont transformé la fête du Canada en grand jeu d’eau, mais cela n’a pas empêché bon nombre de citoyens de célébrer la Confédération. À Saint-Eugène et Alexandria, les parapluies ont agrémenté les parades tandis que les membres de la Légion royale canadienne ont solennellement participé au lever du drapeau sous la pluie, à l’île du Chenail de Hawkesbury. « C’est le moment de la fête du Canada que je trouve le plus touchant, car cela nous rappelle les sacrifices qui ont été faits pour que nous puissions vivre dans un pays de liberté, a déclaré lamairesse de Hawkebury, Jeanne Charlebois, lors de la cérémonie. Un pays où nous parlons deux langues, où nous sommes à l’aise et où nous nous respectons. » En soirée, la pluie et les nuages ont fait place aux feux d’artifice et à la musique. Au parc de la Confédération, la famille Latreille et ses invités ont fait vibrer la foule et mille et une couleurs ont embrasé le ciel des différentes communautés, donnant le coup d’envoi aux vacances d’été.
