two spoken word artists, Jayda David and Priyanka Moorjani, who delivered an empowering presentation to KS4, encouraging our students to be confident expressing themselves. On Thursday, our own Ms Lewis led a creative writing workshop for students in KS3 based on her book, Other Me. Once again there have been a number of trips out of school this week. Our Year 10 Spanish students returned from a trip to Cantabria yesterday. It was wonderful to hear how much they enjoyed their travels and the opportunity to put their language skills to good use. These last two weeks Year 9 have had the opportunity to visit Strawberry Hill House to complement their studies on Gothic literature in English. On Wednesday our Year 12 Drama students went to the National Theatre to see Mnemonic, a play that explores ideas about memory. Yesterday you will have received an email about the raffle organised by the Friends of Waldegrave. There are some fantastic prizes including meals out, beauty treats and summer sports clubs. If you missed this you can find further details here. This will be our last bulletin of the year before we break up at 12.45pm next Friday. Our final magazine of the year will be published next week where you can read more about some of the highlights of the term. I would like to thank everyone in our school community for ensuring this has been another happy and successful year at Waldegrave.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

As we conclude the penultimate week of the term, this final bulletin highlights the end-of-year activities and achievements.

Last weekend we had the last of the Duke of Edinburgh assessed expeditions. It was great to see so many students in the year group taking part in this and really throwing themselves into the wider life of the school. Well done to all who took part! This week we had our final celebration assembly of the year, reflecting on Year 9 and the many achievements of the year group as a whole. Congratulations to all students who won either a form tutor award or subject award from their teachers. It was great to be able to celebrate so many students across the year group who have really put their all into their studies this year as well as contributed extra curricular activities outside of school. Awards were also given to students who had perfect attendance, having not missed a single day of school this year. Congratulations to Gochy A, Charlotte H, Charmaine F, Elise B, Honor D, Maram A-D, Mia W and Savannah R.

Well done to 9EJO for being the top form in the whole school for epraise points and 9SPI for coming 9th in the whole school. Such an achievement! Congratulations.

Next week, we finish for the summer on Friday, which will be a half day with students finishing at 12:45. I am sure Year 9 are looking forward to a well-earned break and I look forward to welcoming them back into school in September when they will start their GCSE journey.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Crossing the Line by Tia Fisher

This verse novel won the Yoto Carnegie Shadowers Choice Award, chosen by young people across the country. A powerful novel, Fisher explores how teenagers can be swept up into county lines, based on a true story. It’s moving and believable, keeping the reader hooked.
