FOREWORD
Once shown on cinema screens in theatres along the iconic Hollywood Boulevard, cartoons have transformed alongside the world around them. The Golden Age of Animation that defined the film industry in the 1930s and 40s gave rise to television in the 1960s, and, with it, classic characters like Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound became a part of the family. No crime was too dastardly to solve, no adventure too ambitious to embark upon. Whether it was unmasking the Creeper or chasing the American Dream in Manhattan, in this world anything was possible. At the centre of the movement was the Hanna-Barbera studio, created by former MGM animation artists William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Their unique vision, brought to life by a team of pencillers, inkers and cartoonists, is captured in the Hanna-Barbera collection. Featuring some of history’s best-loved cartoon characters, this desirable series of rare limited edition graphics includes behind-the-scenes artworks and unforgettable scenes from the studio’s award-winning television shows and animated short films. Handwritten character notes, model sheets, stills and title cards have been expertly selected from one of America’s most prestigious archives of animation art and faithfully recreated by a specialist team using silkscreen, lithograph and giclée printing techniques. Framed and painted by hand, the artworks are also signed by artists including William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, Bob Singer and Iwao Takamoto. To preserve the stunning colours, an acid-free paper has been selected, with the artworks displayed in a range of presentations, including diptychs and triptychs. Offering an opportunity to enjoy some of the greatest moments in animation history with your family and loved ones, these artworks are the perfect addition for any cartoon fan. AN INTERVIEWWITH RUTH CLAMPETT
We worked alongside the founder and creative director of Clampett Studio Collections, Ruth Clampett, to source the most desirable Hanna-Barbera works in the industry. Ruth’s father was the legendary American animator Bob Clampett, who is famed for his work on the Looney Tunes series. She told us: “They [William Hanna and Joseph Barbera] had the most significant effect on television animation. It’s really astounding how many different shows they did – it’s unprecedented. They had the foresight to see that with movie theatre cartoons, television was coming up and that’s where it was going to go. “I grew up watching The Flintstones and The Jetsons , and I loved those shows. This amazing collection of Hanna-Barbera art will never be created the same way again.”

Biography
William Hanna (1910 – 2001) Joseph Barbera (1911 – 2006)
Like any successful car toon duo,William Hanna and Joseph Barbera came from two very different walks of life but were united by one dream. After meeting at the MGM car toon studio in 1939 at the end of America’s Great Depression, the pair embarked on a par tnership that transformed television forever. Hanna, a well-liked family man, and Barbera, a smooth-talking former Wall Street tax accountant, hit the ground running when MGM closed their car toon studio in 1957. Just two months later, and with many of their colleagues onboard, they opened H-B Enterprises (rebranded as Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc. in 1959). Following the success of series like The Huckleberry Hound Show , The Yogi Bear Show , The Flintstones and Top Cat , the studio moved to a sprawling new complex in Los Angeles in 1963.With a cartoonish façade inspired by the Space Age style of The Jetsons , this innovative hub of creativity produced some of the world’s best-loved television programmes, earning Hanna and Barbera the moniker ‘The General Motors of Animation’. Their visionary approach included responding to real-life cultural events and creating animation in colour, despite networks not broadcasting in colour until 1965. Along with their television series, the studio branched out into opening credits and crossovers with comic books, most notably with their Scooby-Doo franchise. At the hear t of American television for over four decades, Hanna and Barbera were awarded seven Academy Awards, eight Emmy Awards and a star on the HollywoodWalk of Fame. In 2001, their studio was absorbed byWarner Bros. Animation and their characters continue to inspire children and animation artists worldwide.
