FOREWORD
Once shown on cinema screens in theatres along the iconic Hollywood Boulevard, cartoons have transformed alongside the world around them. The Golden Age of Animation that defined the film industry in the 1930s and 40s gave rise to television in the 1960s, and, with it, classic characters like Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound became a part of the family. No crime was too dastardly to solve, no adventure too ambitious to embark upon. Whether it was unmasking the Creeper or chasing the American Dream in Manhattan, in this world anything was possible. At the centre of the movement was the Hanna-Barbera studio, created by former MGM animation artists William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Their unique vision, brought to life by a team of pencillers, inkers and cartoonists, is captured in the Hanna-Barbera collection. Featuring some of history’s best-loved cartoon characters, this desirable series of rare limited edition graphics includes behind-the-scenes artworks and unforgettable scenes from the studio’s award-winning television shows and animated short films. Handwritten character notes, model sheets, stills and title cards have been expertly selected from one of America’s most prestigious archives of animation art and faithfully recreated by a specialist team using silkscreen, lithograph and giclée printing techniques. Framed and painted by hand, the artworks are also signed by artists including William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, Bob Singer and Iwao Takamoto. To preserve the stunning colours, an acid-free paper has been selected, with the artworks displayed in a range of presentations, including diptychs and triptychs. Offering an opportunity to enjoy some of the greatest moments in animation history with your family and loved ones, these artworks are the perfect addition for any cartoon fan.
