JANUARY 2023
AN ANNUAL REVIEW AND UPDATE
HAVE YOU CHECKED IN ON YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES YET?
It’s here — the new year has arrived! Each year on Dec. 31, when the clock strikes midnight and the calendar closes out, you have a clean slate. Around this time, many of us set out to accomplish some resolutions to improve ourselves. Some may embark on a new weight loss journey; others may strive to be more courteous. Other people may opt to do more things they love or be financially responsible. While all of these are great resolutions for 2023, another suggestion is to make sure you understand the terms of your insurance policies and that they are up to date. Life is fluid, and things change. Here are some reasons why it’s essential to review your policies every year. Account for personal life changes. It's important to remember that 365 days is a long amount of time. A lot can happen that influences your insurance limitations and options. Starting a new job, getting married, having a child, getting divorced, having a death in the family, paying off your mortgage, starting up a new business, or even your children leaving the nest can all impact how your insurance works for you. You'll need to update your policies when any of these events take place. If you recently renovated your home, the house's overall value may have changed. In this situation, you may need to change the amount of insurance you have to ensure it’s fully protected. Make sure your coverage serves you well. Your insurance coverage needs to change and evolve with your current needs. For example, you may have gaps that need to be filled with additional policies, or you might have more than you need which means you can drop an add-on or two. Be on the lookout for discounts. Policy pricing is constantly changing, so checking if you qualify for any discounts is important. For example, if you recently purchased a
new vehicle with advanced safety features, you may be eligible for a better insurance premium.
Lastly, we always want to remind you of the importance of carrying uninsured motorist insurance (UIM). If this is something you don’t have, maybe 2023 is the year you’ll be sure to look into it to protect you and your family. UIM insurance is part of some car insurance policies or is sold separately to cover you if you are in an accident where the at-fault driver does not have sufficient insurance coverage to cover any injuries or vehicle damage. This is essential to carry because most minimum liability coverages are not enough to cover all the damage resulting from severe accidents. To protect yourself from a huge liability, UIM insurance is paramount! Beginning this year and each year, review your past year and check in on your policies to ensure they are correctly serving you. Trust us — you’ll thank yourself later!
From our family to yours, we'd like to wish you a happy New Year. May you find happiness, love, good health, and prosperity in 2023.

Quality Time This language is all about receiving complete and focused attention. This means taking the time for mentorships, checking in meaningfully, and creating moments for teams to connect. For employees who value quality time, having dedicated time to connect and learn from their employers and coworkers can be significantly impactful as they feel seen and heard. Acts of Service Simply picking up an extra coffee for a team member, or alleviating a work task off someone’s plate, shows that you care about their overall well-being and brings them joy. Tangible Gifts A nice, personalized gift can be a display that you acknowledge your employee’s or coworker’s passions and preferences. The more you converse with them and learn about their personal lives, the easier it'll be to choose a more meaningful gift and bring a smile to their face. Appropriate Physical Touch This language can be tricky, but it’s about respecting boundaries. A high-five, fist bump, pat on the shoulder, and a handshake are generally acceptable, but it is best not to assume. Everyone’s level of comfort differs, so always ask before initiating any type of appropriate physical touch. If you take the time to understand your employees’ preferred language of appreciation, you can communicate more meaningfully and positively.
Have you ever heard of “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman? It’s an incredibly popular book that identifies different ways individuals prefer to give and receive love. You can communicate more effectively with your partners, friends, and family by considering their personal needs and using the language that speaks to them best. But did you know you can apply these same principles to show appreciation and encouragement at work? When you understand and use your employees’ preferred language of appreciation, your workplace culture will significantly improve. Words of Affirmation A “thank you” note or shout-out from a colleague is quite powerful, but it’s even more effective when it’s specific to an act or moment because it shows that you are paying attention to what matters. For your message to be clear, consider describing the situation you’re referring to, discussing the behavior you are looking to celebrate, and highlighting the impact of the behavior on you, the team, and the organization. SHOWING APPRECIATION IN THE WORKPLACE THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT AND CONSIDERATION

IN THE SPIRIT OF OPPOSITE DAY 3 Pieces of Advice I’d NEVER Give My Younger Self Jan. 25 is Opposite Day, a day dedicated to mixing things up. On this day, things are done in the opposite manner. To celebrate in my own way, I decided to list three pieces of advice I’d never give to my 25-year-old self! Spend more time drinking alcohol and less time getting rest. Partying with friends was fun in these younger years, but focus and rest were paramount. It’s proven that getting adequate amounts of quality sleep boosts your mood, improves your brain performance, keeps you on your toes, and helps you stay physically healthy. When you miss getting proper sleep, you become vulnerable to getting sicknesses and diseases, such as heart complications, dementia, strokes, and obesity. Spend less time trying cases and more time sitting around in your office, content with the work you’ve done. If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that none of us will ever be finished improving ourselves. There is always room to better ourselves. Self-development is an essential part of success, and those who are successful know it’s never safe to become stagnant and comfortable with where you are! Spend less time continuously learning, and just sit back and think you know enough. It’s always said that you’re never done learning, and how true that is! Every step of the way, life has something new to teach, and it’s essential to become your own student. Learning something new isn’t only good for your brain, but you can always gain a new skill, become more diverse in your field or craft, and see new perspectives on life. You radiate confidence and feel fulfilled, happy, and invigorated when you continue to learn.

PROVIDING RIDES AND SAVING LIVES MEET AN UBER DRIVER TURNED HOMETOWN HERO
We all like to imagine we would do whatever it takes to help others if we witnessed a tragedy, such as a house fire or car accident. We see it all the time when watching our favorite shows and movies, but these random heroic acts rarely happen in real life. When they do, they’re awe-
Without hesitation, Sam ran through the building and found a woman who was hesitant about leaving. He convinced her to go and brought her to safety, and then he returned to help another man get out of the building. Once he saw firefighters on the scene, Sam returned to his vehicle and proceeded to drop his passenger off at the airport. She still made her flight, even with their impromptu stop. In a statement to "TODAY," Uber said, “We’re incredibly grateful to have such a heroic and thoughtful member of our community in Fritz. He went above and beyond to keep his neighbors in New York safe — and still managed to get his rider to the airport on time.” When talking to "TODAY," Sam stated, “You’d be surprised what little things we do that can be impactful. Because, trust me, those little things are going to make a big difference for somebody.”
inspiring. One New York City man was faced with one of these harrowing situations and showed tremendous courage when he helped save lives, all while on the clock. Fritz Sam works as an Uber driver in New York City. He had just picked up a passenger and was taking her to LaGuardia Airport when he noticed a hectic scene in a Brooklyn neighborhood. He soon saw flames and dark smoke emerging from a second-story window of an apartment building. He asked his passenger if he could pull over to offer help. He approached a group of bystanders, yelling for people to get out of the residence. As people fled the building, Sam asked if everyone was out. Someone said there were still people inside.
It’s safe to say that very few people consider Sam’s actions a “little thing.” He acted heroically and is an inspiration to many.
