two spoken word artists, Jayda David and Priyanka Moorjani, who delivered an empowering presentation to KS4, encouraging our students to be confident expressing themselves. On Thursday, our own Ms Lewis led a creative writing workshop for students in KS3 based on her book, Other Me. Once again there have been a number of trips out of school this week. Our Year 10 Spanish students returned from a trip to Cantabria yesterday. It was wonderful to hear how much they enjoyed their travels and the opportunity to put their language skills to good use. These last two weeks Year 9 have had the opportunity to visit Strawberry Hill House to complement their studies on Gothic literature in English. On Wednesday our Year 12 Drama students went to the National Theatre to see Mnemonic, a play that explores ideas about memory. Yesterday you will have received an email about the raffle organised by the Friends of Waldegrave. There are some fantastic prizes including meals out, beauty treats and summer sports clubs. If you missed this you can find further details here. This will be our last bulletin of the year before we break up at 12.45pm next Friday. Our final magazine of the year will be published next week where you can read more about some of the highlights of the term. I would like to thank everyone in our school community for ensuring this has been another happy and successful year at Waldegrave.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

As we approach the final week of term, I am incredibly proud of all the Year 12s have achieved this year. They have navigated a significant transition, adapting to a new environment, the demands of A-levels, increased freedom, and new friendships. I am confident they will begin Year 13 with a fresh perspective and a clear sense of their goals. This week, two representatives from each tutor group participated in a Bake-off competition. The summer-themed cakes showcased their talents, featuring jam-making and genoise sponges. Tasting their creations was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year. Lola, our scholarship winner, has successfully raised £4,275 with her “Kick for Cure” football tournament for the Brain Tumour Charity. This is the highest amount raised by any scholar. Mr Parker and Mr Bannister, who attended the event, commented on her phenomenal performance. As this is the final bulletin of the term, I’d like to highlight some upcoming activities for the final days before the summer break.

On Monday, our Sociologists will attend a workshop at St Mary’s University on the Purpose of Education and Sociological Research Design.

On Monday evening, we have the Waldegrave Summer Festival, an al fresco evening of music, dance, and drama in Digby Court with a television theme. Both students and staff have worked tirelessly to create an exciting and enjoyable event to end the year. We look forward to sharing our efforts with you and are hoping for good weather!

Next Thursday, we will have our celebration assembly, where we will celebrate all their achievements and end the year on a positive note. I wish all the students and their families a very restful summer break.

MS SILLWOOD, HEAD OF YEAR 12

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley

This debut novel is a funny, clever book with such an engaging narrative voice. The premise is fantastical: the UK government develops the ability to travel back in time and ‘rescue’ people from history who were about to die in their times, bringing them back to the present as time ‘expats’. Cue plenty of comedy as the expats discover things like Spotify and modern plumbing. But it also has a serious message about power: who has power over history and the stories we tell about the past?
