first year with the Bulldogs in 2008, he saw his defensive backfield help the team lead the conference with 19 interceptions. Drayton spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach and administrator at Goose Creek (S.C.) High School after serving as the defensive coordinator of the Seinajoki (Finland) Crocodiles of the European Football League in 2006. His first coaching experience came as a graduate assistant/secondary coach at his alma mater in 1999, followed by one season as tight ends/ offensive tackles coach. While spending three years (2000-02) as an assistant coach with the Charleston Swamp Foxes (Arena 2), Drayton continued to coach at The Citadel, serving as wide receivers coach (2001), outside linebackers coach (2002) and secondary/special teams coach/ recruiting coordinator (2003-05). PERSONAL: A native of Moncks Corner, S.C., Drayton played collegiately at The Citadel from 1994-98 and totaled 145 tackles, 17 passes defensed and three interceptions…He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in secondary administration from The Citadel…He and his wife have two children. Maurice Drayton enters his 24th season coaching and his first as the assistant special teams coach with the Las Vegas Raiders, having spent the past four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Drayton served as the assistant special teams coach with the Packers from 2018-20 before being promoted to special teams coordinator with the club in 2021. In 2021, Drayton worked with newcomer P Corey Bojorquez, who finished with the highest gross punting average (46.5 avg.) in a season (min. 35 punts) in franchise history. He also saw K Mason Crosby set a new franchise record with a streak of 24 consecutive field goals made from 2019-2021. Under Drayton’s guidance in 2020, Crosby set a single-season franchise record for field goal percentage, connecting on all 16 attempts. Crosby’s perfect field goal percentage bested his previous career high of 91.7 percent set in 2019. Drayton also worked with P JK Scott, who averaged 45.5 yards in 2020 to mark the second best single season punting average in team history. In 2019, Drayton helped Scott as he ranked ninth in the NFL with 29 punts inside the 20-yard line, marking the most by a Packer since 2012. Drayton entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Indianapolis Colts, serving as the assistant special teams coach from 2016-17. During his two seasons, Drayton helped K Adam Vinatieri register his 19th and 20th 100-point seasons, extending his NFL record. With Drayton’s help, P Rigoberto Sanchez finished fourth in the NFL with a 42.6 net punting average as a rookie in 2017, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie team. In 2016, Drayton coached P Pat McAfee to his second Pro Bowl selection after leading the league with a team-record 49.3-yard average. Additionally, the Colts ranked fourth in the NFL in kickoff return average (25.1) under Drayton’s guidance. Prior to the NFL, Drayton spent 14 seasons coaching collegiately, including nine seasons at his alma mater, The Citadel. Drayton held the role of assistant head coach/defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach at The Citadel from 2014-15. Drayton guided a defense that set multiple records en route to winning a share of the 2015 Southern Conference title. His defense led the conference with 31 takeaways, 11 fumble recoveries, 10 passing TDs allowed and a 36.5 opponent third-down conversion percentage. The defense also ranked third in the FCS with 20 interceptions, including five returned for touchdowns. In 2013, Drayton was a guest coach (defense/special teams) with the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes, and he spent the 2012 season as secondary coach at Southern Mississippi. From 2010-11, Drayton coached at Coastal Carolina, serving as assistant head coach/special teams/wide receivers, and helping the program win its first Big South Conference title since 2006. Prior to his time with the Chanticleers, Drayton was the special teams/ defensive backs coach at South Carolina State (2008-09), where the Bulldogs won two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles.
