DEFENSIVE BACKS, PASS GAME COORDINATOR 22ND SEASON IN NFL(10 AS A PLAYER) • 1ST SEASON WITH RAIDERS JASON SIMMONS

In 2015, Simmons saw Crosby surpass K Ryan Longwell for No. 1 on the all- time franchise scoring list and P Tim Masthay set a then-franchise record with a 40.3-yard net punting average. Simmons made an impact on the coverage unit, helping WR Jeff Janis (15) and S Chris Banjo (21) post career highs in special teams tackles. Simmons entered the NFL coaching ranks with the Packers as the team’s coaching administrator, where he worked closely with the defensive staff. PERSONAL: As a player, Simmons was drafted in the fifth round by Pittsburgh in the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to play in 121 games over a 10-year career from 1998-2007. Simmons spent the first four years of his career as a standout special teams player for the Steelers, before signing with the expansion Texans in 2002…In Houston, Simmons expanded his play onto the defensive side of the ball, seeing action as a safety in the Texans’ secondary…Over his 10-year career, Simmons recorded 186 tackles (138 solo), 10 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two sacks and two interceptions on defense, in addition to the 96 career stops on special teams…Simmons played safety at Arizona State University and was named second-team All-Pacific-10 during his senior season in 1997… A native of Inglewood, Calif., Simmons attended Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, Calif., where he lettered all four years in both football and track. Jason Simmons, a 10-year NFL veteran as a player, enters his first season as defensive pass game coordinator coach for the Las Vegas Raiders and 11th year as an NFL coach, having spent the past two seasons in the same role for the Carolina Panthers. Last season, Simmons’ unit was part of a defense that allowed just 192.1 passing yards per game, ranking fourth in the NFL and marking the Panthers fewest since 2009. The defense also held its opponents to 305.9 total yards per game, ranking second-best in the NFL and marking the fewest yards per game allowed by a Carolina defense since 2013. Under the direction of Simmons, the Panthers tallied nine interceptions by six different players. In 2020, Simmons helped a young Panthers defense improve to 18th in the NFL in points allowed per game after the team finished 31st in the category in 2019. Under Simmons’ guidance, S Jeremy Chin was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team after leading all rookies with 116 tackles and becoming the first player in franchise history to win two Defensive Rookie of the Month Awards. Simmons joined the Panthers after spending the previous nine years in various roles on the Green Bay Packers staff. During Simmons’ tenure (2011- 19), Green Bay’s defense recorded 146 total interceptions, tied for the fourth most by any team in that span. In 2019, Simmons served as the Green Bay’s defensive backs coach, where he helped the team advance to the NFC Championship game and finish the regular season tied for third in the league in interceptions, third in completion percentage allowed, fourth in pass breakups, fifth in forced fumbles, tied for fifth in passing touchdowns allowed and sixth in defensive passer rating. CB Kevin King totaled five interceptions (t-4th) and 15 passes defensed (t-8th), while CB Jaire Alexander added two interceptions and finished tied for fourth in the league in passes defensed with 17. In 2018, Simmons served as the Packers’ secondary coach, helping the team finish 12th in the NFL in pass defense (234.5 yards per game) – an 11-spot improvement after Green Bay finished 23rd in the category in 2017. Under Simmons’ tutelage, Alexander led the team with 11 passes defensed and finished second in tackles (64), earning him a spot on the PFWA’s All-Rookie team. Prior to coaching the secondary, Simmons served as an assistant special teams coach for Green Bay from 2015- 17. From 2015-17, the Packers ranked No. 2 in the league in opponent punt return average (5.7). Additionally, Green Bay’s 10.7 yards per punt return in 2017 ranked No. 2 in the NFL. In 2017, Simmons helped tutor undrafted rookie punter Justin Vogel as he ranked No. 7 in the NFL in net punting average (41.6). With Simmons’ assistance, Green Bay’s special teams continued to excel in punt coverage and punt returns in 2017 as the Packers finished No. 6 in the NFL in opponent punt return average (5.7). In 2016, Simmons helped kicker Mason Crosby register 122 points, his 10th consecutive season with 100-plus points. Crosby finished the season 26-of- 30 on field-goal attempts (86.7 pct.), his fourth consecutive season above 80 percent and the fifth of his career.
