Public Private Partnership Revitalizes Key Building in Downtown Emmaus Emmaus, PA – About 50 members and guests of CREW Lehigh Valley gathered in at under-construction project to learn the behind-the-scenes story of a public/private partnership that is breathing a new life into a long-shuttered building, the former Main Street Furniture Gallery. Gene Clock, president of the Emmaus Main Street Partners, discussed how the organization obtained $500,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funding during the administration of Governor Ed Rendell for an economic redevelopment project. Incorporated in 1995 as a non-profit program to support and revitalize the Emmaus historic downtown and now an affiliate of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Emmaus Main Street Partners understood they needed the right development partner to realize the dream. The partner was found in Village Center Properties of Souderton, which specializes in preserving and redeveloping older, historic buildings.

David Halliday, a principal of Village Center Properties pictured here with Gene Clock, discussed the Emmaus project. Built in the early years of the 20th Century the building served, at various times, as a carpenter’s shop, funeral home, and furniture shop. Mr. Halliday was attracted to the project because of the Main Street Partners, an organization that has generated a base of support among the business and governmental community. Upon completion, the building will feature 16 Village Centre Executive Office Suites, 4,000-square-feet of conventional office space and 2,000-square-feet of Retail / Restaurant space. Construction completion is projected for the fall of 2014. The event concluded with a networking reception at Design Elements, and Emmaus Main Street business owned by CREW LV member Cindy Massa. n

President Maureen O’Meara opened the meeting.
