AN ENTERPRISING BURGLAR The shadows lay thick beneath the tree, and where they were deepest a figure crouched. Suddenly he heard a sound, a light footfall on the grass. "That you, mate?” he whispered hoarsely. “ Yes,” came the answer. “ What you doing with that dog?” he muttered as his burglar partner drew near. “ Why,” answered his confederate, “ there was nothing worth taking in the house, and it’s bad luck to come away without anything. So I pinched the watchdog and these burglar alarms!” If the above is true, the burglar made the most of a bad situation. If we view things rightly we can make the most out of a bad situation. Paul’s thorn in the flesh was a means to the sufficient grace of the Lord (2 Cor. 12:7-9). Job’s losses and crosses were in the end the precursors of double gains and blessings (Job 42:10-17). Joseph’s pit and prison were the channels to the palace and power (Gen. 46:1-8). Paul and Silas in the inner dungeon at Philippi gave them the opportunity to sing praises and save the jailer (Acts 16:25-34). John’s banishment to the Isle of Pat- mos was the forerunner to the .vision of the glory (Rev. 1:9-18). The apostle being let down in a basket 1 b associated with his being caught up into the third heaven (2 Cor. 11:33; 12:1-4). Goliath’s taunt against David gave the latter the chance to triumph over him (1 Sam. 17:42-46). — F. B. M.
