RITAM GRADA RHYTHM OF THE TOWN
Belgrade’s graffiti artists have been active for two decades. 1990s pioneers carried out their activities illegally, anonymously, and with plenty of trouble, but it seems that street art is today gain- ing a legitimate place in the cre- ative experience that is Belgrade. We will continue to smile sour- ly when we are transported back to the ‘90s by the iconic graffiti phrase “Proleće je, a ja živim u Sr- biji” (It’s spring, and I live in Ser- bia), but we will also remain in- trigued by the genuine works of art that emerge in the streets of the city on an almost daily basis. Balancing between what is con- sidered vandalism and an accept- ed art form, graffiti artists depict Belgrade ever more courageous- ly making every walk exciting to everyone able to see.
A humorous slogan, a call for change, critiques of society that hit the spot... You can read all of this on the walls of Belgrade’s buildings, under its bridges... Murals are a mirror of the spirit that drives this city
