Robustness of the ranking of regions in accord- ance with the RIS
This section will deal with two methodological debates around calculating the RIS compos- ite index. The initial aim of this section is to learn about the stability of the RIS in- dex. Since innovation systems are influenced by the technolo - gy and background of their re- spective territories (Martin and Sunley, 2010), they are unlike- ly to radically change their structure and, therefore, their performance in the short term. Secondly, we will provide a “significance” variable of the differences between the indices of the European regions, assign- ing different weights to the RIS indicators.
