Person Specification QUALIFICATION / TRAINING • Educated to at least undergraduate degree level and a relevant professional qualification. • Ideally hold a recognised occupational health and safety qualification (IOSH, Nebosh) or working towards the qualification. • Relevant Postgraduate qualification desirable.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS • Ability to plan, lead and strategise.
• Ability to motivate, drive and manage a department. • Ability to be self-disciplined and highly organized in their approach to their duties. • Ability to problem solve and use own initiative to solve problems. • Wider sector and/or relevant knowledge and experience to provide support and value to the wider management team. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to operate and interact successfully in a collegial manner at all levels with academic and professional services colleagues as well as a variety of external stakeholders. • Knowledge and understanding of the external regulatory and political environment both in terms of Higher Education and relevant functional and statutory regulation. • Strategic and creative thinker, capable of creating long-term strategies and able to put ideas into operation and to contribute to policy making. EXPERIENCE • Significant experience in managing and leading facilities, estates and IT in a relevant company/ institution, preferably in Higher Education. • Significant experience of building, managing, motivating and leading teams. • Experience of managing successful complex building projects.
• Proven expertise in the development, financing and delivery of capital programmes and projects.
• Significant experience of negotiating commercial deals based on sound financial acumen whilst understanding the principles of sustainable construction and sustainable procurement. • Experience of managing health and safety effectively across multiple sites. • Experience of strategic planning and the sustainable development of estates, facilities & IT. • Substantial experience of managing third party contractors and service providers. • Demonstrable understanding of the importance of student engagement and a commitment to delivering an exceptional student experience. • Held previous position of seniority, able to establish credibility and build department accountability.
