KALENIĆ JE MOJA POZORNICA KALENIĆ IS MY STAGE RITAM GRADA RHYTHM OF THE TOWN S ASFALTA Danilo Anđelković, diplomirani vilonista, svira na ulici već pet godina Danilo Anđelković, qualified violinist, already performing on the streets for five years
Ako me neki prolaznik podstakne, dajem još više. Musicians performing as street artists have long been seen as beggars in Serbia. Whoever wanted to per- form played wherever and whatever they wanted. Howev- er, five years ago Danilo Anđelković, a qualified violinist, appeared in Belgrade’s Knez Mihailova Street. He is the first professionally trained and qualified musician in our country to dedicate himself to performing on the street. He started an initiative for the work and status of street musicians to be regulated by permits and he succeeded in that endeavour. - As of four years ago, musicians must have a per- mit from the City for their work. Since then street perfor- mances have no longer been treated as begging, but rath- er as a cultural attraction – says Danilo. This guy entertains passersby every day at Kalenić Market, playing a violin made in 1905 that he inherited from his grandfather, Danilo. He often plays Schubert’s “Ave Maria”, which transports the people of the Vračar neighbourhood to another, better world. - The audience is as important as the performer. If a passerby encourages me, I give even more. It doesn’t mat- ter if that’s some pretty girl or some older gentleman, it’s only important for me to see that someone really enjoys what I perform.
