2019 SAE Corporate Learning GV Resource Guide - P18294612

POWER AND PROPULSION

Who Should Attend This academy will be especially valuable for engineers who are involved in the design or manufacture, are responsible for assembly process, calibration and integration of any common style transmission or related components into the following types of vehicles: passenger cars, light trucks, light duty off- highway vehicles, light duty farm machinery, and military vehicles. Supplier quality management and procurement personnel involved in and responsible for the above transmissions and/or components may also benefit from attending. Prerequisites Attendees are expected to be familiar with the basics of automotive transmission technology, general architecture, powerflow and application through sufficient work experience or by participating in a seminar such as SAE’s Fundamentals of Modern Vehicle Transmission Systems (ID# 99018) or the related On Demand Course (ID# PD730419). The following on-demand online course modules (Web Seminar Replays) are required components for successfully completing this Academy. Participants will receive access to the courses upon registration with the expectation that they complete the modules in advance of Day One at the Academy. • Infinitely Variable Transmissions (IVTs) Using a Toroidal Traction Variator • Performance and Use of Polymer Plain Bearings in Transmission Design • New Mechanical Shifting Devices in Automotive Transmissions DAY ONE • Introduction and Orientation • Mechanical Power Transmission Overview • Transmission Specific Technologies, Operation and Function within an Automotive Application • Detailed Review of specific Transmission Technologies Topical Outline Pre-Recorded Courses

Transmission Engineering Academy 5 Days | Classroom Seminar I.D.# ACAD11

The Transmission Engineering Academy covers the sciences of automotive passenger car and light truck engineering principles and practices necessary to effectively understand, develop, specify and start the design process. Topics include advances in manual, automatic, automated manual, and continuously variable transmission technology, materials and processes applicable to the major components within these transmissions, calibration of these systems unto themselves and integration into the full vehicle powertrain. The Transmission Academy is an intensive learning experience comprised of multiple industry experts who lead lecture and structured practical sessions, production and / or test facility tours and a comprehensive hands-on workshop. Two evening sessions are included. Course materials include a copy of the textbook, The Automotive Transmission Book , by Robert Fischer. Please be advised that this course may involve one or more of the following; driving and/or riding in a vehicle, participating in a hands-on workshop, and / or taking part in an offsite tour using outside transportation. Attendees may be required to sign a waiver on-site and produce a valid driver license from your state / country of residence. Learning Objectives By attending this Transmission Engineering Academy, you will be able to identify or describe: • Several new and emerging technologies within the transmission engineering field • Specific transmission terminology, design and development processes • Key issues facing transmission designers, calibrators and integrators • The fundamental technical reasons and limitations of transmission technology in terms of efficiency, NVH, service life and drivability (i.e. operator satisfaction) • Calibration techniques, methods and outcomes that assess affectivity of results • The key aspects of transmission integration into the modern vehicle powertrain • The function, limitation and concerns of lubricants and lubrication as it applies to transmission function and operation • Emerging transmission technologies, their optimum application, limitations, cost implications and as a function of regulation and operator expectation • Common materials and materials processing techniques, as a function of the state-of-the-art requirements of these systems
