US 1 Freeway Conversion Project Sheet US 1 Freeway Conversion Project | U-5307 U-5307 is a NCDOT project to widen Capital Boulevard (US 1) and convert the roadway to a freeway from I-540 to Harris Road/Purnell Road in Wake Forest. The project will remove all direct access to US-1 and convert all at-grade and signalized intersections to interchanges or grade-separations. All direct access will be provided via a series of service roads which will run parallel to US 1 on both the eastern and western side of the roadway. The Town of Wake Forest collaborated with NCDOT to create typical cross-sections for the service roads for additional improvements beyond the NCDOT typical cross-section. These improvements include curb and
