The Governor’s Prevention Partnership believes strongly in the power of mentoring and knows first-hand through its research that young people who are paired with a caring adult in a quality mentoring program are more likely to do well in school, graduate, and give back to their communities. We also know that at least 1 in 3 youth in New Haven could benefit from having a mentor in their life, yet less than half are currently enrolled in a formal mentoring program. For more than 25 years,The Partnership has supported businesses and their employees to participate in youth mentoring. National studies show that employers who support mentoring and volunteerism have employees who are more engaged and satisfied . Involvement in youth mentoring is a win-win-win : young people matched with a mentor can experience positive outcomes at home and in school; mentors feel good about giving back and helping a young person achieve success; and the employer wins by supporting the local community and increasing employee engagement! We work directly with 27 mentoring programs throughout the Greater New Haven area providing them with resources, training, and assistance. Besides funding, the greatest need that most programs have is to recruit more mentors .We urge your business to get involved in youth mentoring in New Haven.
