THE AMERICAN DREAM Fourth of July Freedom

By the time July rolls around, the weather is typically scorching — welcome to summer! This time of year, my family and I often spend more time outdoors, either by heading to the beach or traveling to the beautiful state of Colorado, one of the places we love most. July also means Independence Day, a time to celebrate freedom and resilience. The meaning behind the Fourth of July reminds us how fortunate we are to live in this country. My dreams, goals, and accomplishments here show the many freedoms we enjoy daily and the liberty that enables us to create our own paths.

we want to pursue, essentially carving out our journey. I admire the individuals who have come to our country from all over the world, each seeking the opportunities that living in America offers. These brave individuals come here to better their lives, to provide for their families, and to climb the ladder of success. Pursuing a better life is a fundamental part of the true American dream.

That dream embodies the belief that anyone, regardless of background, can achieve their goals through hard work,

determination, and motivation. It is the chance to improve your life, whether through earning a good living, owning a home, or simply finding your passion. Over time, this dream has meant different things to different people, from financial security to educational opportunities and a sense of belonging. Overall, the Fourth of July reminds me to count my blessings.

“The annual tradition of the Fourth of July not only celebrates the birth of our nation but is also a reminder of the values that make America a land of endless possibilities.”

Our family trips to Colorado almost every summer help us escape the Florida heat, but when we decide to stay home, it is safe to say that we make the most of our time. Lakeside living truly enhances the Fourth of July holiday and celebration; the view of the fireworks is breathtaking and makes barbecuing all the more fun. This year, we plan on visiting friends in Virginia for our

Remembering these privileges is essential, as only some get to experience them. I feel grateful every day and make it a point to show my children the significance of our country and its freedoms. The annual tradition of the Fourth of July not only celebrates the birth of our nation but is also a reminder of the values that make America a land of endless possibilities. Whether soaking up the sun, experiencing the tranquility of the mountains, or the serenity of lakeside living, we celebrate much more than just a holiday on this day.

summer vacation. Being in the mountains is an excellent change of scenery and a breath of fresh air. My favorite aspect of it has to be the change of pace, which allows us all to enjoy the beautiful, refreshing

weather. My kids’ favorite activity is watching the parades; they love seeing all the decorations and music and enjoying the infectious energy as they float down the street. These are just a few experiences that show the privileges of living in this country.

Unfortunately, many individuals often take living in America for granted. Living here means choosing how we want to spend our time and what

‘Effortless’ by Greg McKeown ROBERT’S BUSINESS BOOK SPOTLIGHT

We are often told that working hard means having more success in life. However, working hard can be exhausting and could limit your energy to innovate or make the progress you hoped for. We should not make life harder for ourselves when it could be effortless. Published in 2021, the empowering book “Effortless” might be one of my favorite reads. Greg McKeown shares some great insights into what “overachieving” really means. He also highlights how we can avoid overexerting ourselves and stop the endless cycle of overthinking.

are physically rested, emotionally unburdened, and mentally energized. We can focus on what matters most when we are aware and attentive. “Not every hard thing can be made easy,” he writes. “But we can make it easier to do more of what matters most.” So, what are the essential steps to achieving an “effortless” state? McKeown explains it in an easy-to-remember, three-word phrase: invert, enjoy, and release. First, invert — Instead of asking yourself why something is hard, ask, “What if this could be easy?” Challenge the assumption that the “right” way is always more challenging. Create programs and processes with residual results

McKeown talks about returning to an “effortless” state, or an experience where we

Performing at My First Gymnastics Show JUMPIN’ JULIET

Hi everyone, It’s Juliet here! I am so excited to tell you all that I just turned 5 years old. I almost feel like a grown-up. My birthday party was terrific, and I loved being with my family. Recently, I did my first gymnastics show! My sister and I did it together, and we had so much fun. We had the best costumes and our hair looked so pretty! We went to gymnastics practice every Monday, and all our hard work paid off because we even won a super cool trophy! My older sister, Ella, and I always put on shows for our family. We love to jump, dance, and twirl around the house to fabulous music — I guess that’s why they call me Jumpin’ Juliet! My dad always tells me to remember these fun days because I will miss them one day. He wishes for me to always be this carefree and happy; he says I have the best smile!

Ella is fantastic, and I hope to be like her someday. She is the best at gymnastics, and I asked her to teach me all her amazing tricks and dance moves. Ella always tells me to dance like no one is watching. She says to always have as much fun as possible in and out of gymnastics. Laughing with Ella is one of my favorite things, and I am so happy to have a sister like her. Ella and I are now matching our gymnastics trophies, and I could not be more excited. I can’t wait to continue with gymnastics because I have learned so much and want to be the best I can be! Here’s to many more shows, trophies, and smiles ahead!

that make your life easier. We must remember that specific tasks do not always have to be linear.

Second, enjoy — Pair your most essential activities with the most enjoyable ones. Work and play can coexist! By turning your tedious tasks into meaningful rituals, you can more easily avoid burnout. Third, release — Do not cling to emotional burdens. When you focus on what you lack, you lose what you have. Find a gratitude practice that works for you (i.e., gratitude journaling, adding a thought of gratitude for every thought of complaint). Relieve your grudges by asking, “What is the grudge’s purpose in my life? Is it worth keeping around if it isn’t doing anything useful?” After these helpful tips and tricks, McKeown thoroughly explains that the path to success does not have to be complicated or miserable. We have control and a choice to make our path however we want. This is a refreshing read in the business world, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested!

Amazing Ladybug Facts

SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT LADYBUGS GARDEN GUARDIANS

Rather than a backyard pest, ladybugs are a backyard best . These spotted creatures are adored worldwide for their innate cuteness and vibrant color and their role as a natural form of pest control. However, ladybugs are more fascinating than you may realize, so prepare to admire them even more. Don’t Bug Me Despite their popularity, ladybugs are also misunderstood. For one thing, ladybugs aren’t bugs — they are beetles! Unlike bugs, beetles are omnivores that enjoy munching on plants and insects. Ladybugs’ favorite food is the aphid, a tiny insect that wreaks havoc on crops and gardens. This makes them one of the few creatures helpful enough that people intentionally introduce them to their gardens. Their pest-control properties have long given them the reputation as miracle workers — so much so that their namesake is likely the Virgin

Mary, sometimes depicted in paintings as wearing a red cloak.

Colorful Critters While many think of ladybugs as small red critters with black spots, they are more varied than you might realize. There are 5,000 species of ladybugs worldwide and more than 450 in North America alone! Interestingly, in addition to red, ladybugs also come in yellow, brown, orange, and even pink, with some sporting zebra-like stripes instead of spots. Mighty Matriarch Their colorful exoskeletons — formed from a protein similar to the one that forms our fingernails — are for more than just show. While they are harmless to humans, their appearance dissuades potential predators. When found in nature, vibrant colors indicate that an animal may be toxic and foul-tasting. Ladybugs can

release a nauseatingly foul-smelling chemical to repel predators if a threat gets too close.

Beloved by all for their colorful exteriors, ladybugs’ handy habit of preying on pests makes them a welcome addition to the garden and a vital part of a healthy backyard ecosystem. These spectacular beetles are a fixture the world over, and the more you learn about them, the more they will amaze you!
