T here are some interesting things in God’s Word about model people which most folks have never taken the time to study. For instance, Abel was the model speaker of God’s grace in response to faith. The Bible says of Abel, “He being dead yet speaketh.” The story of his sacrifice is given to us in Hebrews 11:4, so we might know how salvation is obtained. Cain brought the fruits of his hands, the best that he had been able to grow. He thought they would surely please God, but such things nev er could. Abel brought the sacrifice of a lamb and put away his sins forever. Abel is still telling us that “without the shedding of blood there is no re mission.” The Lord Jesus Christ went to Calvary and shed His precious blood for us. Enoch was the model walker. That is a beautiful thought. Enoch walked with God and was not because God took him home. Enoch was not a lazy man. He was always occupied in fel lowship with the Lord. How often is this true with us? The three men in heaven who were translated were Enoch, Elijah and the Lord Jesus Him self. The word “walk” has two mean ings. One is the actual physical steps and the other is one’s associations. For many years I walked among the doc tors working in the operating rooms. That was my manner of life. When I went in the circus business making tents, I walked with that type of peo ple. I was trying to win them for the Saviour while at the same time design ing and building their equipment. But Enoch walked with God. This is the way the Lord wants us to walk. Noah was a model worker. He built an ark for the saving of himself and his household, as God had ordained. He wanted to be sure he was safe. There are men who take their children to Sunday School and drive them home again, but who make no other provi sion for them. That isn’t what Noah did. He built an ark for salvation from the wrath of God upon the gross sin fulness of man. “Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, pre- 28
