Managing Joint Pain in Our Humid Climate

Do you ever feel like your pain is worse on particularly hot or humid days? It’s not your imagination! While there’s plenty to love about our warm weather, high humidity can cause your body’s tissues to swell, increasing pressure on your joints and worsening pain for those with arthritis or other joint issues. At The Physiotherapy Center LTD, our team wants to help you live as comfortably as possible, so here are some of our favorite tips for keeping your joints happy when the humidity levels soar. Three Strategies You Can Try Today 1. Stay Active (But Do it Safely): Exercise keeps your joints healthy, but it’s important to choose low-impact options that won’t add additional strain. Swimming and walking are two excellent options, so on humid days, we suggest spending some time at the beach or by the pool. 2.Stretch Every Day: Simple stretches can help reduce stiffness in your joints and improve your overall mobility.

We recommend a short routine first thing in the morning and another in the evening. Pro tip: Stretching is a great way to stay active while you’re watching TV! 3.Keep Cool and Hydrated: If your pain is especially bad, try to get out of the heat, either by finding an air- conditioned space or taking cool showers throughout the day. Both options can reduce joint swelling. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water, as staying hydrated supports joint lubrication and muscle function. Moving Forward with The Physiotherapy Center LTD Team If you’re really struggling with joint pain, remember that our physiotherapists are here to help! We offer several pain-relieving strategies at our clinic, including massage therapy, acupuncture, and personalized programs, that can help reduce discomfort so you can stay active.
