S taying positive is not an easy task and no one can be positive 100% of the time but that should not stop anyone from trying to achieve that goal. In my younger days, I was known to be a pessimist. There was always something to complain about. It was not until I was able to remove myself from a toxic situation that fed into the pessimistic thoughts that I saw just how negative of a person I was. I did not like who was looking back at me in the mirror. My life had reached a split in the road and I could either go full force down a lonely road where I lost everyone due to my own behavior or I could swallow my pride and start to fix myself. For years I would tell myself that I was a terrible photographer, de- spite the fact that numerous people around me were saying the contrary. Later, I would taint their positivity with my own negative thoughts like, ‘They are just being nice. It is not how they really feel about your work.’ I see these same thought patterns in my friends and family, and it is rath- er frustrating to be on the other side of this equation. A friend of mine has body im- age problems. No matter what their partner says to them, they brush off compliments of their appearance or borderline argue over the fact that they simply can not be attractive. Stop forcing your opinion of a topic on someone else. If a person says you are beautiful or handsome, listen to them. Let their opinion of you shape your own. This is another issue I have been guilty of myself in the past. It took time and a lot of effort, but I stopped scoffing when my partner would compliment me on any topic. The more I would respond positively, the more I started to believe that not only I am attractive but that I am a skilled photographer and the imposter syn- drome faded away. I’ve lived both lives and if you can develop out of a negative environment into a positive one, do not fear the change. Your life will be worth living. Developing From A Negative Be Positive

COLLEGE WILL BE CHALLENGING, BUT THESE TIPS CAN HELP INCOMING STUDENTS ENJOY THEIR TIME HERE.

F reshman year of college is one of the most exciting times of a person’s life. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, pick up a new interest or hobby, and discover what you want to do with the rest of your life. One of the best pieces of advice I can give to an incoming college freshman is to explore all the options and resources available to you. Talk to your advisor and visit career/major fairs. Join clubs and extracurricular activities! ȃĩǢܼƢĩ þ łƢĩþƷ ǜþǢ ƷŻ łĩƷ ƷŻ ţűŻǜ people with similar interests and make time for fun and hobbies during your busy college life. -- Taylor “Kat” Goodman

TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF COLLEGE

Opinion by CU Sentry

I t’s easy to get caught in the daily routines and activities of the college life but spare some time to make sure you don’t get behind. Set a reminder in your calendar at the start of every semester to set up a meeting with your advisor to see if you’re on track, taking the classes you’re supposed to, but most impor- tantly creating a plan that works best for you. -- Jaleesia Fobbs
