Experience the Scandinavian tradition of cross-country skiing with advice from experts, building confidence before gliding across the frozen lake. Later, discover local culture with a visit to a reindeer farm, including a sleigh ride and fireside refreshments, followed by free time in the ski resort of Ruka. Enjoy an afternoon of family-friendly fun with traditional winter activities, including fire-pit pancakes, sledging, and building snow forts and snow sculptures with Basecamp guides. Have a go at snowshoeing, skiing, or even join optional snowmobile safaris or scenic walks, before gathering for a farewell dinner. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Eco-Lodge overlooking Juuma Lake and Oulanka National Park, where you’ll meet your group leader and fellow travellers over a delicious Finnish welcome dinner. After preparing your Arctic equipment, explore Oulanka National Park with a gentle snowshoe walk along the frozen rapids of the Kitkajoki River. Warm up in the afternoon with a sauna, hot-tub, or continuing the activities with kick-sledging. Visit a husky farm on the edge of Riisitunturi National Park, where you’ll learn the skills to ride and drive the sled and the importance of caring for the huskies. You’ll be joined by the dog teams, before heading out on a 10km mushing adventure. With the adults driving and the children sitting, this is the perfect opportunity to appreciate the serenity of this snow-laden landscape.
