Join us on a guided tour of Iowa City’s Plum Grove Historic Home, the former residence of Iowa's first territorial governor, Robert Lucas, and his family. This guided tour will include the seven-room brick home furnished to reflect the Lucas family’s residency in the 1840s-1850s, maintained by the Johnson County Historical Society. The tour will also include and Friendly Lucas’ Heritage Garden, maintained by the Johnson County Master Gardeners of Iowa. During the event, we will enjoy a fruit pastry together in honor of Mrs. Lucas' baking skills and the extensive fruit orchard that included several acres of plum trees. The tour will be led by Judy Nyren, local Iowa City history enthusiast and citizen historian for Lucas Farms Neighborhood Association. Nyren is also a past recipient of the Friends of Historic Preservation Volunteer of the Year award and a Johnson County Historic Society Volunteer of the Year. Following the tour, there will be an optional short walking tour in the surrounding historic neighborhood. Limited space available. Register by Tuesday, July 11.
