NSLHD News May 15 2023

What a couple of weeks it has been across the Northern Sydney Local Health District. We proudly launched our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Strategy 2023- 2027. I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their hard work in bringing this strategy to life. We were able to have members from each of our five employee networks at the launch and it was fantastic to see firsthand just how passionate our employee networks are about making our district a safe and inclusive space for everyone. If you want to get involved in our employee networks, please visit the NSLHD Employee Networks page on the intranet. People with lived experience and allies are welcome to join. I am proud to work as part of such an inclusive organisation and I look forward to following the progress of the strategy in the coming years. It was fantastic to see and be a part of our wonderful International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife celebrations across the district. To our wonderful nurses, thank you for always providing the best possible care to our patients and their families across the district. You are there for some of their best and worst days and the care you provide is second to none. Equally to our wonderful midwives, thank you for the work you do every day in supporting families on their parenthood journeys and helping to bring new lives safely into this world. Our expecting parents and their families are in the best possible hands when coming under your care. The Bureau of Health Information (BHI) recently released the Emergency Department Patient Survey 2021–22. Whilst 2021 and 2022 presented challenges with coronavirus and influenza, our emergency departments continued to provide

exceptional care to our patients and their families. I was noticeably happy to see that 78 per cent of our emergency departments patients throughout 2021 and 2022 answered that they would speak highly of our EDs and 85 per cent said staff were always kind and caring towards them. Emergency departments can be stressful for both patients and staff and these results are just another indication of the fantastic health care we provide across the district. Now is the time to receive your influenza vaccination, which is available to all staff members and your families. I’d like to thank everyone who has already been vaccinated. For information about the influenza vaccine, online consent, and times and locations visit the NSLHD Home Intranet via the Influenza Vaccination Program 2023 “Quick Links” portal. It was a privilege to attend Administrative Professionals Day celebrations at Macquarie Hospital. All our administrative professionals across the district play a vital role and it is important that we use occasions like this to acknowledge the exceptional work that happens often behind the scenes. I’d like to extend a big congratulations to all the inaugural award winners and thank everyone who helped organise the day.
