HAWKESBURY | The books have been closed on an overhaul of a section of Hawkesbury’s Cameron Street, with $10,000 being added to the final in- voice. A late start and weather conditions re- quired Cornwall Gravel to carry out extra work, resulting in the company billing an additional $10,991 on its $276,550 con- tract it was awarded in the fall of 2011. The repaving of Cameron between Spen- ce Avenue and County Road 17 began in November, 2011, relates Ainley Group, the consulting engineering firm working for the town. But because the weather had turned cold, the application of the second layer of asphalt was postponed to 2012. Cornwall Gravel was asked to cut a key in the concrete to drain a low spot and in 2012 had to grind the surface of the street. The bulk of the cost is being covered by government grants. Loblaw Proper- ties Limited had contributed $75,000 under an agreement signed back in 2003 when the company agreed to carry out a study to determine how the new Your Independent Grocer outlet would af- fect traffic in the area. The food chain set aside $75,000 for Cameron Street im- provements, with the stipulation that the work be started by 2011. RICHARD MAHONEY RICHARD.MAHONEY@EAP.ON.CA

Land purchases The Township of Champlain has pur- chased a 26-acre parcel of land in Vankleek Hill for $70,000. The land, bought from Gilles, André and Jasmine Leduc, is situated south of town and west of Highway 34. One of the functions of the site will be to accept dry material ex- cavated during sewage work, says public works superintendent James McMahon. The municipality also has acquired a 0.35-acre lot in the east end of Vankleek Hill from Les Entreprises HDJS Gascon at a cost of $35,000. The former owner of the site south of Main Street had allowed the township to use the property to store equipment, explains chief administrator Jean Thériault. The township decided to buy the lot when the owner put it up for sale, avoiding the need to find alternate storage facilities. UN PAS DE GÉANT... DANS LA TECHNOLOGIE HAUTE VITESSE UN PAS DE GÉANT...
