Spotlight on Germany Alumni Chapter's Colonel Claude A. Burnett D r. Claude A. Burnett is a Colenel in the U.S. Army and currently serves as the Chief of Clinical Operations/ where he served as a Chief Resident. His previous assignments include nu- merous leadership and clinical positions in Germany and Italy.
Chief Medical Officer for Regional Health Command – Europe, Sembach, Germany. He previously served as the Deputy Commanding Officer (DCO, July 2017-September 2021) of the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. He served as the Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (July 2014-July 2017) and Acting Chief of the Division of Surgery (November 2016-May 2017) at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. He also previously served at the Deputy Commander for Clinical Services at the US Army Health Center in Vicenza, Italy from July 2012-July 2014 and Chief of the Department of Surgery from 2007-2009 and Chief of the OB/ GYN/Women’s Health Service from 2004-2007 and 2008-2011 at the US Army Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany. He served as the Deputy Commander for Clinical Services of the 47 th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) in support of OEF 09-10, Tikrit Iraq, from August 2009-February 2010. He served as the Regional Health Command-Europe Consultant for Obstetrics and Gynecol- ogy from 2007-2014. He is a graduate of Howard Univer- sity in Washington District of Columbia where he attended on a 4-Year ROTC Scholarship. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Howard with a major in Chemistry and minor in Allied Sciences. He received his commis- sion through ROTC in 1992. He is a graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1996. He completed a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Martin Luther King/ Charles R. Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California from 1996-2000
Dr. Burnett is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the Ameri- can College of Obstetrics and Gynecol- ogy. His many professional affiliations include the American Medical Associa- tion, Fellow of the American Society of Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology, the National Medical Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. COL Burnett completed his Certified Physician Executive (CPE) certification through the American Association of Physician Leadership. He is a past-Chair of the Aerospace & Military Section of the National Medical Association, serving from 2005-2007. COL Burnett currently serves as the Army Head of Delegation on the NATO (COMEDS) Military Healthcare Work- ing Group. He has extensive research experience, published several articles with colleagues at St. Vincent’s Hospi- tal- Karlsruhe Germany, and has given several speeches at National Medical Conferences. Dr. Burnett has completed Officer Advanced Course, Intermediate Level Education (ILE) and the Uniformed Service University Executive Skills Course as part of his military training. He has received numerous awards and honors including the Meritorious Ser- vice Medal (3OLC), Army Commenda- tion Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. He is a member of the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3). Dr. Burnett has greatly improved pa- tient centered healthcare throughout the Army Medical Department (AMEDD)
in the disciplines of Women's Health and Surgery, as well as helped shape the capabilities of Army Medicine in Europe during a turbulent time of drawdown. Over more than 20 years he has performed as a clinician, academician, European Regional Medical Command (ERMC)/ Regional Health Command Europe (RHCE) OBGYN consultant, and administrative medical leader, both in the military and at the national level. For example, from 2000-2012, COL Burnett served in multiple clinical and leadership capacities at USAMED- DAC Heidelberg (HMEDDAC) in Heidelberg, Germany. During his tenure there he spearheaded the suc- cessful implementation of the DOD/ VA Uncomplicated Pregnancy Clinical Practice Guidelines (UPCPG) within the HMEDDAC footprint and served as the Europe Regional Medical Command (ERMC) UPCPG physician champion ensuring successful implementation throughout the region which included three hospitals and 27 clinics in Ger- many, Belgium, and Italy. He developed and implemented a protocol for man- aging OB ultrasounds in the Overseas TRICARE network that significantly improved care for patients and became
