Lt. Col. (Ret.) Bobby Works 1933-2022 Project Manager, U.S. Army
OK, on March 13, 1965, and graduated from Millwood High School, where he was a drum major in the school band. He attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, where he studied chemical engineering. As a Zeta Omega chapter member, Samuels was involved in all aspects of Kappa, emphasizing the events of the annual Zeta Omega Kappa Week and other chapter activities. Samuels was in the marketing indus- try for many years before establishing his image consulting firm, Made Men Image Consulting. By 2014, Samuels created a YouTube channel, whereas a self-proclaimed relationship guru expert hosted a call-in show where he offered advice and commentary. Samuels’ sharp-tongued critiques and ideas quickly drew a large following of men and women. His social media following on his YouTube channel was estimated at over 1.4 million subscribers, while Samuels accumulated over 1.2 million followers on his Instagram page. The New York Times newspaper character- ized Samuels and his meteoric rise on social media as a man “who built his following on an image of plain-spoken, hyper-masculine authority, usually wearing a finely tailored suit.” While he was highly successful and proficient at growing his audience and followers, Samuels also developed a following of detractors and critics who objected to his opinion on relationships, defined traditional relationship roles of men and women, and sometimes biting critiques of callers to his shows. Ac- cording to the New York Times, “many of his supporters viewed him [Samuels] as taking courageous stands for what they called traditional values… while a chorus of detractors who condemned his views as outdated ....” Brother Kevin R. chapters throughout his military assign- ments. While stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas, he served as polemarch for the Wichita (KS) Alumni Chapter. After arriving in Virginia, he joined Woodbridge (VA) Alumni, where he held various leader- ship positions. McFadgen’s passion for knowledge, service, and self-im- provement led him to become a Master Mason in 1978 at the C. W. Lawrence Masonic Lodge #837, Wichita, Kansas. Preceding McFadgen in death were his Aunt Mildred Williams, Uncle Joseph McFadgen, Grandmother Millie McFadgen and his Father and Mother- in-Law James and Ethel Cody. Brother Daniel A. McFadgen leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Pamela McFadgen; four daughters, Dawn Henry, Brianna McFadgen, Miaisha McFadgen, and Captain Hali McFadgen; two grandchildren, Domi- nique and Ryan Henry; his parents, Glendell and Mary Robinson; one sister, Angela (Gregory) Griffith; four broth- ers, Kenneth Grimes, Ronald Robinson, Larry Robinson, and Bernard Robinson; a host of nephews and nieces; a host of other relatives and friends; longtime friends Dr. Shelton Rhodes and DeWitt Powell. Bobby Works (Xi 1952) entered the Chapter Invisible on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 89. The youngest of 12 children, Works was born on April 3, 1933, in Little
Rock, AR, to Emma Lou and Jason Works. In 1951, he graduated from Dunbar Senior High School as an honor roll student. Works attended Howard University, where he was a member of the U.S. ROTC program. He earned a B.S. degree in 1955. He later earned a master’s of public administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1972. In 1955, Works entered active duty with the U.S. Army in the Air Defense Artillery branch and later transferred to the Field Artillery branch. After 29 years of honorable service, Works retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel. In 1984, Works joined the Computer Science Corporation (CSC), working on Special Projects for 19 years. A Life Member of the Fraternity, Works was a long-standing member of the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter. Works was also a member of his high school alumni association. In 2003, he led the publishing of the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School of Little Rock, Ar- kansas pictorial history book. In 2007, Works was awarded the President’s Award for outstanding and dedicated service. Since 2015, he had served as a member of the Steering Committee for the National Dunbar/Horace Mann Reunion of the Classes. Brother Bobby Works is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, the former Nancy Abram, and his siblings. He is survived by his children Gregory (Cynthia) Works (Xi 1984); Sharon (Robert) Hymes; and Kharon Works Sellers; six grandchildren, and a host of close friends and relatives.
