Meet your new Old South Neighbour: Daniel Soha Born in Aix-en-Provence (France) to Hungarian-speaking parents, Daniel Soha is the holder of a Master’s degree in Anglo-American studies and a Masters of Education from the University of Aix-Marseille. A citizen of both France and Canada, he recently moved to Old South London to be near family. His pre-retirement roles as a translator with the United Nations, and a columnist for French cultural magazines in Singapore and Boston “became a kind of warm-up for writing fiction” he explains. He has published a number of novels and collections of short stories in French, was a two-time finalist of the Trillium Awards, and a two-time winner of the prize awarded by the French Book Fair in Toronto. A board member of the London Writers Society, Daniel describes his new book Sam’s Orchid as a “moral tale of beauty, sex, love, and the movies.” The book is available at mosaicpress. ca/products/sams-orchid, on Amazon.ca, and at Little Wren Books on Adelaide Street. Daniel says he’s a a collector “of mo- vies (DVDs), of pop-up books (!!), of North American native art (Pueblo pot- tery, Navajo rugs, Inuit and Iroquois sculptures), of original posters and paint- ings, and quite simply, of any oddities I can get my hands on, notably 1970s objects and paraphernalia. I also cook and was the author of a cookbook. I love sports (Rugby and boxing being The City will be adding a new two-way cycle track along the east boulevard of Boler Road, as well as two pedestrian crossings at Optimist Park Drive and at Norman Avenue. The cycle track will connect cycling facilities on Southdale Road and the Byron community with Springbank Park and the Thames Valley Parkway. The new pedestrian crossings will provide a safe crossing opportunity for people that are already crossing and do not have a crosswalk nearby. Improvements Coming to Boler Road by Daniel Hall, Program Manager, City of London The City of London plans to introduce a range of improvements to Boler Road this year, including the replacement of a watermain, addition of safety measures for cyclists and pedestrians, and upgrades to traffic signals. Martial Arts and Wellness Programs in the Heart of Wortley Village The project is slated to start construction in late spring and to be completed within approximately six months. The detailed project design is being completed this winter, and any required tree removals will be completed by March 31, in accordance with legislation protecting migratory birds and their nesting periods. Approximately two weeks before construction starts, the City will issue notices that include detailed information on temporary conditions and impacts on residents such as street parking, driveway access, and garbage collection. Specifically, the project includes replacing the watermain between Byron Baseline Road and Griffith Street, which is approaching the end of its expected lifecycle. Portions of the asphalt roadway will be replaced as well.
my favourites) and I go to the gym regularly and I spoil my four grandchildren.” Daniel used to paint “many years ago, but I recently picked up my brushes again.” “My first impressions about Old South (in a nutshell): friendly, pleasant, pretty (nice architecture, beautiful tree-lined streets), culture and community-minded, respectful of nature and animal life, hedonistic, teeming with pedestrians. and smelling of flowers (in the summer) and good food,” he says. “The London Writers Society recently had a display/book sale at the Wesley Knox United Church, and again I was struck by the incredible attractiveness of the neighbourhood. For Salvador Dali, the center of the world was the Perpignan railroad station, for me it is pretty much Tuckey’s! Learn more about Daniel at www.danielsoha.com. The traffic signals at the intersection of Griffith Street and Boler Road will be replaced and upgraded to accommodate new accessibility features and replace aging infrastructure. The signals at Byron Baseline Road and Commissioners Road intersections will also be modified to accommodate the cycle track and geometric changes to the road and curb line. Many of the signal poles will remain in place, with a few new poles or relocations. Boler Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction during the construction phase. However, there will also be periods of time when Boler Road is further reduced to one lane shared for both directions with flag personnel directing traffic. Work on the watermain will also require a road closure with local access only for a specific number of weeks. A detour route and duration of the closure will be provided as part of the construction notice. The City invites you to their open house to learn more about the Boler Road Improvement project. Staff will provide updates on the project, share information on construction and discuss impacts on residential property. The drop-in event takes place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the London Public Library, Byron Branch, 1295 Commissioners Road West.
