Riverbend Villager March 2026

Potholes and Major Construction Updates After a long winter, March brings the promise of warmer days—and with it, a renewed focus on our road infrastructure. I want to share updates on two major construction projects coming to Ward 9, as well as what residents can expect during pothole season. What’s Happening at Landon Library Submitted by Ashleigh Hickey Cursive Writing (Ages 8+) January 20, 2024 10:30 am – noon (Registered) If you’re in the mood for an authentic Irish dish (St. Patrick’s Day is March 17) – sorry, green beer doesn’t count – try these easy but very delicious potato farls. This is my grandmother’s recipe from Co. Cavan in the east of Ireland, but potato farls (a kind of savoury scone) are common around the whole island. Even if you’re not much of a baker, they come together very quickly. Preparation time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 30 minutes Makes 8 small farls Ingredients: 500g floury potatoes 50g butter 50g plain flour, plus extra for dusting A pinch of baking powder Salt and black pepper Extra butter, for cooking Instructions: 1. Peel and boil the potatoes, then drain well, and return the potatoes to the pan. 2. Melt the butter in a pan and add to the potatoes. Mash them until smooth. This part is your workout for the day! Boler Road Cycling and Watermain Improvements The City of London is planning construction along Boler Road from Commissioners Road West to Southdale Road West. This project includes installing a new two-way cycle track on the east side of the road and replacing an aging watermain. Detailed design work is currently underway, along with required tree removals, which must be completed by March 31. Residents are invited to attend a public drop-in open house on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the London Public Library, Byron Branch (1295 Commissioners Rd. W.), where City staff will share construction details and timelines. Oxford Street West Extension The Oxford Street West Extension project will widen and upgrade Oxford Street West from east of Westdel Bourne to Sanitarium AlvegoRoot Theatre Trivia Night Manor Park Memorial Hall, 11 Briscoe Street For ticket information and to learn more about AlvegoRoot’s 2024 season, visit www.alvegoroottheatre.com It’s time to be creative! Sift the flour with the baking powder into the potato mix and stir to combine. Taste for seasoning and adjust, if required. The dough should pull away from the sides of the pan. 4. Divide the dough into two halves. Form one piece into a ball, then roll it out on a floured surface and into a rough, flat. Cut the circle into quarters. 519-661-2489 ext 4009 ahopkins@london.ca Come learn the benefits of cursive writing and try your hand at some pangrams with Dez, a local archivist. PA Day Creativity Break (Teen) February 2, 2024 3:00 – 4:30 pm (Drop-In) Your Perfect Match awaits you at The London Animal Care Centre and The Catty Shack! Forest City Irish Fest is also hosting a series of concerts throughout the year, bringing world-class Irish musicians to London and also hosting traditional music sessions (music played informally in pubs) and singing throughout the afternoon and evening of March 17th. Enjoy a few pints of well-poured Guinness and some curry chips – it doesn’t get more Irish than this! Bringing people and pets together www.accpets.ca 5. Heat a shallow frying pan over a medium heat with a little butter to grease the surface. Transfer the four pieces to the pan and cook for around 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip over and cook the other side for another 3 minutes. Remove to a warm plate. 6. Repeat with the other half of the dough. These potato farls are perfect as part of an Irish fry-up or toasted with some butter and jam. Tugaigí faoi (enjoy)! If this little taste of Ireland isn’t enough for you – Wortley Village will host the first Forest City Irish Fest, a free celebration of all things authentically Irish, on September 19. Bring the whole family down for Irish music, dance, storytelling, language and sports, along with many vendors and a kids’ corner. Cultural Cooking by Rachel Genders Boyd Potato Farls
