Immaculate Conception Catholic School continues to move forward Embrace of technology is theme for 2024

By Andrew Larson alarson@charlescitypress.com Immaculate Conception Cath- olic School had a successful 2024 and is looking forward to a busy 2025. “Great school, great families, great kids, great community. We really want to see our kids excel and work hard,” said Im- maculate Conception Catholic School Principal Laurie Field. “The teachers work really hard to make our kids excel and help them reach their potential.” A recurring theme in 2024 for Immaculate Conception was tech- nology, for better and for worse. “Technology is a friend, but it’s also not, when it’s not work- ing, so that has been a huge chal- lenge,” said Field. “Some of the kiddos have a hard time separat- ing themselves from technology, so we’re working really hard to help them work through that. We had big technology issues with Chromebooks. “WE IMPLEMENTED THROUGH a safety grant new cameras without the school. So getting to learn that program hasn’t been a challenge, but it’s been something new to learn. We also implemented a fob system throughout our building, on the outside not the inside, yet. It’s been something new to learn, but that’s been exciting, actually. I think everyone has had a good, positive review of that.” The school has also used tech- nology to better connect with families to keep them informed of all the goings on at Immaculate Conception.

“We just started an app for the school. The IC School app can be downloaded, and we try to put all of our communication out through that,” said Field. “So through that now we’re able to get text messages to our families, which I think is huge. The app can be found in the

Google Play Store for Android users or the App Store for iPhone and iPad owners. “Just search for IC School and it will have our IC logo,” Field explained. As far as the students are con- cerned, the focus this school year has been reading. Field explained

that the school implemented a new reading curriculum with an emphasis on incentivizing the children to read more in school and on their own time. “We’ve asked them to read and meet a goal at home, outside of school reading so many minutes, and if they meet the goal they get

to turn me into a fl amingo,” Field said. Field explained that if the kids meet their goal they will have the opportunity to cover her with syrup and feathers to give her the appearance of a large pink bird. I.C. , turn to page C2
