Annual Production Sale Monday, March 30, 2026 1:00 p.m. (MST) Sterling Livestock Commission Sterling, Colorado
WELCOME!
We would like to welcome you to the annual Axtell Cattle Company bull and female sale.
Times are good in the cattle industry. Calf prices are at record highs and this is a great time to invest in the future of your herd with bulls that will improve your cow herd. This set of bulls is one that we are very proud of. They weaned incredibly well with basically no sickness and took off growing. We had great grass and bigger weaning weights and a very nice winter so far. It’s amazing what these cattle can do when the environment cooperates a little. The quality runs deep on this group of bulls! This group of bulls will be in working condition and will weigh a little more than previ- ous years. We shoot for a 2.5 lb/day gain and these bulls exceeded that even with less feed than normal. We went on a nationwide search for new sires that fit what we want to do and found some excellent new blood for our herd. We feel these bulls have fit what we want to do and will have a lasting impact on our herd and yours. The bulls we added will add volume, calving ease and are out of very good cows. We didn’t pick them for their numbers, but for their quality. The commercial heifers will be from three customers and will include a nice group of first calf heifer pairs in addition to the open heifers. One group will be January calves with extra growth. These are the heifers that have topped our sale nearly every year. The other group will be April born heifers that will be more moderate in frame with excellent quality. Both groups of heifers will be great assets to commercial herds in the area. The pairs are from reputation genetics, have Axtell sired calves at side and are ready for grass. We invite you to stop by anytime to see the bulls, our herd sires or cowherd. Just call ahead to set up a time and get directions. The sale offering will be available for viewing at the sale location on the afternoon of March 29th. We look forward to seeing you sale day, but if you are unable to attend and wish to bid just contact us, the sale representatives or pre-register on dvauction.com a couple days prior to the sale. You are able to bid live on DVauction or leave proxy bids on lots you may be interested in. The sale will also be on CattleUSA.com as well. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance to you in the buying process. We love to talk about cattle and would be glad to visit with you anytime. I will shoot it to you straight on any lots you may have interest in. Our goal is to have the right animals with the right buyers. We have years of experience with these cattle and if we know what you are looking for, we can assist you in getting the correct animals for your environment and management. Also be sure to follow our Facebook page and website for more details. Hope to see you March 30th!

We purchased Craftsman as the all time high seller at the Flat Water Gang Sale in Nebraska. 5L Craftsman is widely known to make fantastic daugh- ters and has a great pedigree and is very rare. We bought this son out of a top Sandbur Ridge donor cow to give us a great calving ease and maternal bull. His first calf crop has not disappointed and many of his sons are standouts, but we are most excited to get his daughters into production.

We purchased Boxer with Select Sires Argentina. This is his first calf crop for us, but he's got calves all over South America. We bought him for his type. He was very moderate, very deep and long bodied with good feet, excellent breed character, dark red color and great attitude. We've been pleased with his calves, some are carbon copies and some are even better

Widescreen was kept as a replacement for his sire and the fact that he was out of one of our top cows at the time with excellent production, udder and fertility. He can add a little frame, is easy calving and nearly always adds style and weight in an attractive package. He's a bull that covers all the bases.

We used TKO on heifers this past year. He stamps his calves with his distinctive, heavy muscled look with style. He is a very easy calving bull that reduces frame, BW and adds a great look. His first daughters are calving and are outstanding.

Journeyman was our second 5L Craftsman ET son that we purchased in 2024. He will add a performance and middle, is very easy going and has consistent calves. As with his brother, we feel the females will be outstand- ing out of this bull.

We were looking through the bulls at Ohlde Cattle Company and saw two bulls that really stood out to us. This is the first one, He combines OCC Home Run and a great line of Black/Red Gene cows. He was the growthi- est bull in the pen and had good bone and structure. We've liked his calves very well to this point.
Kaycee 610K was our second pick at OCC, He is heavy muscled and has a little more slope to his hip that I like, there will be no high tail heads from him! He has a great attitude and is backed by a very nice cow. He got a few good red cows, but was used extensively on our Black OCC cows to add some Black / Red Gene, straight OCC cows to our herd.

Maximus was retained from his calf crop because he was the best footed bull in his class and was out of one of our top cows who is the deepest bodied cow on the ranch and being sired by Flying K May, who is a top maternal bull, He has grown larger than either parent and sires extra frame, length and extension while passing on his great feet.

DUFF DIXIE ERICA 1120 1565 Dam of Duff Red Boxer 21217
Redwood will add muscle and is out of a great cow. She was the high seller in the 2020 cow sale and Namken's flushed her to Duff Red Wood and we couldn't resist bring back a bull from Red Wood and crossed to one of our top cows while bringing the BJR Gambler 027 bull closer up in our pedi- grees.
Commercial heifers This year we are offering a group of commercial first calf pairs in addition to the commercial replacement heifers. These heifers are owned and raised by Wyckoff Cattle from Cheraw, Colorado, Steve and Matt Kalous from Brush, Colorado and Lucas and Maureen Beek from Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. Each lot of heifers will come into the ring in small groups, sorted by weight and type. The buyer will buy the group in the ring or has the option of taking the whole lot. We would allow a young person to pull one heifer out if they are wanting to find a show heifer. We believe this is a great group of commercial females that will make their new owners proud. The commercial heifers will follow the bulls at the conclusion of the sale. The bulls will start at 1:00 P.M.
LOT A: Wyckoff Cattle, JD Wyckoff - Cheraw, Colorado (580) 247-8154 Wyckoff Cattle is offering 10 first calf pairs.
These heifers originated from the Pat Shannon ranch in Kim, Colorado, some were home raised, and some were from Steve Kalous heifers.. They are straight Red Angus from a top commercial herd. The heifers were vaccinated in the fall and had Cleanup 2 on February 26th. The calves received a shot of 7 Way at birth. The calves are sired by Axtell Action and Cube sons both from the Axtell 785 cow, locking in uniformity. The calves were born mid February. This is a rare opportunity to purchase first calf pairs of top genetics. This lot allows you to get income quickly and still be left with a good young cow and the work of calving heifers is already done.
LOT B: Steve and Matt Kalous – Brush, CO (970) 768-2451 Steve and Matt are offering 15 head of replacement heifers.
These heifers are born in January and February and are out of a high performance / maternal cattle herd. They will have extra size and weight and will make top cows. They are sired many past sale toppers from our herd. They will be mostly by Flying K Max, Red Knight, Dominator, Knock Out and Redwing sons. They buy the good ones and it is evident in the quality of their cattle. If you want to tie into top genetics, look at these girls. I would call this group, one of the best sets of cattle to sell in the state this spring. These heifers are weighing in the 800 lb. range, but are moderate framed and backed by generations of similar type. Please call Steve to discuss these heifers. He has documented carcass data on their steer mates that will make your mouth water. Just an outstanding group of heifers! LOT C: Beek Family – Cheyenne Wells, CO Lucas (719) 342-1005 or Maureen (719) 342-2969 The Beek family – Lucas and Maureen Beek are offering 15 head of replacement heifers. These heifers are born in April and are from a maternal cattle herd that doesn’t pamper their cattle. These cattle will know how to go out and work for a living. These heifers are all April born heifers and will really pop when they get out on grass. They are sired by Axtell and Kravig Red Angus bulls. They will be a nice set of cattle from a really good family that has a passion for good cattle. The Beek’s also have a beef business, so contact them for that as well. These heifers are weighing in the 600-650 lb. range, are moderate framed and backed by a quality cowherd. Please call Lucas or Maureen to discuss these heifers.
Please note that NO DELIVERY will be available on commercial heifers.
Pictured are the 2018 consignment by Steve and Matt Kalous. For this year’s consignments, check out videos on DVAuction.com

We lead off the sale with a bull that is built like a tank, stacking muscle and capacity from Red Boxer and Widescreen. This bull packs about as much as you can onto his frame. He is the much anticipated first Red Boxer son to sell. 5204 is the bull to use if you want to increase capacity, muscle, gainability and maternal ability. He will produce the front pasture kind.

Lot 2 is the first of Clay's bulls. He earned his way to the top of the offering with ratios of 114 for weaning and yearling. He is very long, smooth and deep. He is a prototype of the kind I like. His dam has arguable the best udder in the herd at ten years of age. This bull will make stylish calves that grow and make outstanding daughters.

Lot 3 is extremely similar to Lot 2 in type, you can see how Widescreen 2032 stamps his progeny. This one may be even smoother, has a great attitude and is a heifer bull. Either Lot 2 or Lot 3 is the best Widescreen we've had to date, I just can't decide which one it is. Lot 3 is from one of our original cow families that is great at calving ease and longevity as noted by his Top 1% HB and Stay.

If you are looking to make moderate, easy fleshing daughters, this is a great option. OCC bred on top of a moderate framed, thick and excellent Dominor daughter lock in the maternal on this bull. He will work well on heifers as a bonus.
Lot 17 has been a favorite since birth. We actually posted a video on face- book of his dam licking him off. His dam is a do nothing wrong cow that always produces well just as her dam did. If you need calving ease, mater- nal instinct, thickness and longevity, this is a good option.

This heavy muscled bull is only an April calf, but he had a 701 WW and is deep, wide and loaded with muscle. He is the type we hoped we would get out of the Namken Redwood bull.
This is a heifer bull that packs a punch. He's got a ton of depth, width and hind quarters. He's a beef bull for sure, but will be easy calving as well!

This bull is loaded with muscle and is huge ribbed. You can see the Ribeye on this guy. He is out of a top notch cow that is from the same granddam as Lot 17. The Faith cows are some of our best. This bull will definitely increase fleshing ability in his daughters and bring in heavy muscled steers.
This calving ease bull is moderate, thick and wide. He has a good attitude and is backed by a very good young cow. I think she will be one of our best down the road and this bull gets her off to a great start.

A nice Craftsman son that reminds me of his sire. His dam is an excellent cow that is easy fleshing and productive. Her cow family is loaded with top cows in our herd. This bull ranks highly for all maternal and calving ease traits.
This bull is probably a heifer bull, but he's plenty good enough for the cows as well. He locks in the three best footed sires we've had, locks in good cow families and should make daughters with excellent maternal instincts… and he weaned at nearly 700 lbs.

This outcross bull has the typical Red Boxer, dark hair coat, but this guy has less BW, more stretch and has a Canadian dam, so he's a complete outcross to our herd. His EPD's will update once our Genomic Data is incorporated.

Use him on big heifers or cows, but keep the daughters. His grand dam was one of the best cows to walk here and the same can be said for 5L Craftsman daughters. He's in the top 1% for HB and Stayability.
Lot 28 is one of the bigger framed Boxer sons and he gets it from his ultra feminine dam. This bull has a classy look and will add some length and pounds to his calf crop.
