O n D e c e m b e r 4, 1961, the Lord called unto Himself one of His faithful servants—Miss Clara May Lee of West Hollywood, California. A pioneer in a very real sense, she was a descendant of Governor Bradford of Mayflower and early American history fame. Her father was a cousin of the great Southern General, Robert E. Lee. But more important to Miss Lee was her Christian service as one of the early Bible Women of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. Arriving in California in 1920, she entered the Bible Institute and after graduation, on Sept. 1, 1924, became a Bible Woman. For more than forty years, she rendered a tireless, sacrificial service as a Bible Woman in Rancho Los Amigos, General Hospital, Olive View T. B. Sanitarium and other places. She became a familiar and be loved sight, with her shopping bag of gifts and goodies, her Bible under-arm, and her huge purse, bulging with tracts. From bed to bed, from wheel chair to wheel chair, she carried cheer and the message of Christ. Humble, patient, kind and intensely practical, Miss Lee exemplified a rare devotion to the work of the Lord. Her labors were not easy. To reach her areas of labor, it was necessary to use three buses, and the long trips and making the rounds of her “children” consumed eight hours daily. Oftentimes she fell asleep on buses, and had to he awakened by the drivers. In spite of total deafness and greatly impaired eyesight, she carried on her work to within a few; months of her death. She will be greatly missed, especially by those indigent adults and afflicted children to whom she took tidings of an all-sufficient Saviour. She was one of God’s great gentle noble women, and our loss is Heaven’s gain.
