C U U S C R I T I Q U E by Bettf Bruechert M e c e n t l y a f r ie n d called at our office to ask about a cult bearing the improbable name of “Concept- Therapy and Conceptology.” A bro chure from the San Antonio, Tex. headquarters of this system contains the information that it has been in existence since 1931 and includes this definition of itself: “Concept-Therapy and Conceptology is a philosophy of life which teaches one the knowable facts of the physical, mental and spir itual planes of being. We take you as far as we can with facts, beyond which no one can go . . . Consequent ly, we do not teach of God nor of a Life After Death, a Kingdom of Heav en, a Purgatory, a Hell, nor any of the other subjects that rightfully come under theory.” However, a text book of this system, the 166-volume by Thurman Fleet, published in 1950, entitled “Rays of the Dawn” makes numerous references to God. In the preface appears this statement: “The most advanced thought of today concedes that God is within man — or that man is within God—and ex presses Himself in man’s spiritual consciousness.” On pages 143-44 we read: “The human soul responds to vibrations . . . positive or negative . . . The individual who understands the laws of his being and lives in harmony with them, will find it quite easy to ‘build a wall around himself so to speak, which will keep the negative vibrations of lower souls from dragging him down to their level . . . To recognize the source of evils, and to overcome them by posi-, tive thoughts, words and acts . . . ” The 1960 roster of this cult’s “In ternational On the Beam Club” lists a number of doctors which bears out the report that it is designed especial ly to appeal to the medical profession. “Christ is the greatest personification of the ideal soul, and his method stands as a beacon which serves to light up the path of those who are evolving upward” (p. 125). But God’s Word reveals Him as “The Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world” and declares “The Kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness and peace and joy, in the Holy Ghost” (John 1:29; Rom. 14:17).
