As we’ve written in the past, Ortho Technology finds value in every smile. Often that means providing clinics with all the tools they need to help their patients grin from ear to ear. But sometimes we get the opportunity to take a more direct approach. Thanks to the generosity of Henry Schein, Inc., our volunteers were able to make a difference for the children of New Port Richey’s RAP (Runaway Alternatives Project) House and bring smiles to many faces. RAP House is a short-term shelter for children between the ages of 10 and 17. As part of Youth and Family Alternatives, Inc. (YFA), a private not-for-profit agency dedicated to creating safe, nurturing environments for children, the house serves all of Pasco County — providing vital relief to some of the most vulnerable members of GIVING SMILES Helping RAP House our community. RAP House takes in kids who have run away from home and suffer from homelessness, school-related problems, abuse, and any other crisis situation. With back-to-school season fast approaching, we wanted to lend RAP House and YFA a hand in making a difference for these kids. The shelter may put a roof over their heads, but these youths still lack many of the most basic resources. So, Ortho Technology and our parent company, Henry Schein, Inc., put our heads together and found a way to make these kids’ school year a little brighter. On Aug. 10, our volunteers delivered 60 brand-new backpacks to the kids at RAP House. Each was filled with school supplies, new clothes, and hygiene supplies — things many of us take for granted but mean the world to students in need. School is hard enough without missing the necessary books, binders, and backpacks, to say nothing of going to class in tattered clothing. Seeing these supplies made the kids’ faces light up!

with local favorite Hungry Harry’s BBQ, face painting, a magic show, and an inflatable obstacle course. It was a day filled with joy and laughter, and one we feel very lucky to have been a part of. We’re grateful for any opportunity we have to make a positive difference in our community and extremely fortunate to have the backing of a compassionate company like Henry Schein. We’re also lucky to have such amazing volunteers! To Lydia Lee, Maria White, Andrew Mendoza, Rosa Torres, Ed Harris, James Adams, Tom Coye, Dean McClure, Rob Tripi, Vicki Babilonia, Kim Joseph, and Shawn Potter, thank you all for donating your time to this cause. Tap Into the Back-to-School Season
As you load up the family for some final summertime adventures, preparing for the upcoming school year is likely one of the last things on your mind. Instead of shopping for school supplies, your main focus might be finding the best place to position your lawn chair around the campfire for optimal marshmallow roasting! But the back-to-school season is coming up, and families need to begin the expensive task of purchasing items for school. According to the National Retail Foundation, back-to-school shopping contributes to 17% of total annual sales. That’s a nearly $76 billion industry that your business could be cashing in on. However, when you only offer a special or sale because of a particular season, you are not tapping into the full capacity of the market. You need to make the offer something people actually want or need, be it chiropractic adjustments for kids carrying too many books or discounts on vehicle services for carpooling families. Anyone who has worked at Ortho Technology over the past 18 years has been privileged to work alongside Shelly Forcke, our Human Resources Manager. She has been our cheerleader, trainer, coach, and trusted advisor, but now she’s off to a new adventure — retirement! Shelly has helped successfully onboard every new employee at Ortho Technology for years. For many of us, she was the initial point of contact as we began our journey of working at the best dental company in the world. From promotions and awards, to medical leaves, Shelly has been there to help each one of us navigate the process every step of the way. She helped us grow our business while developing the team and culture. As our Human Resources leader, she was the chief architect behind Ortho Technology winning the 2016 Pasco Economic Development Council New Business of the Year Award, an amazing honor for our company and one of her many significant achievements!
Shelly has always led the charge in planning and assisting with Henry Schein Theme Days, company events, and holiday luncheons, and
she even took top honors for many of her creative costumes over the years at these events. Shelly promised to visit during future company events, and we know we can count on her to bring her passion for OT when she does! Her dedication and enthusiasm for Ortho Technology has been contagious throughout her tenure, and, although she will be missed greatly, we’re excited to hear about her upcoming adventures with her husband, Ed, during retirement.
