Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation: Cancer Control Plan

Introduction

The Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation is pleased to present the 2026-2030 Strategic Cancer Plan. This plan establishes a foundation for meaningful progress over the next five years to reduce the burden of cancer in the Bristol Bay region. It emphasizes improvement across the cancer continuum, with priority focus areas including prevention, screening, early detection, and quality of life. Cancer remains the leading cause of death in the region, profoundly affecting our communities. Through this plan, we seek to implement coordinated strategies to reduce cancer incidence and improve outcomes for our people in the 28 outlying communities we serve, including Dillingham. Together, we can make a difference!

Purpose and Intent

A community-informed, strategic, and sustainable cancer control plan can be a useful tool to prevent and control cancer, the leading cause of death in Bristol Bay. To address this cancer burden, Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC) identified the creation of a regional cancer plan as a top priority in their 2025-2026 Annual Quality Plan. Active steps were taken to develop a region-specific cancer control plan. This document is the result of those efforts. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Many individuals throughout the Bristol Bay Region contributed their time and attention to this work. We acknowledge those who participated including cancer survivors, their caregivers, health care providers, care coordinators, and administrators.
