LOCAL CUSTOMS

• Malta is a welcoming and inclusive country where everyone should be treated with respect, regardless of gender, background, or identity. • Maltese people are generally friendly and may start conversations with visitors. This is a good opportunity to practise English and learn about local life. However, respect others’ personal space and remember that not everyone wants to chat. Avoid sharing your address, telephone number, or other personal details with people you have just met. • “Please” and “Thank you” are very important words! Use them when asking for something or when someone helps you or gives you information. • In Malta, a tip of around 5–10% of the bill is customary in restaurants when you receive good service. Check your bill first, as some restaurants include a service charge. If this is already included, an additional tip is not necessary.
