about three metres. The legs go first, and if my shoulders pass through the head won’t be a problem. I hang in the air, unable to see anything below, slightly stuck in restrained panic I seek the best support with the help of a guide. I succeed. Through my mind tho- ughts go: who in the hell forced me to do this?! I could have enjoyed myself on a beach, drinking beer like normal people... LEAP INTO THE ABYSS “Let's go for another jump, a smaller one”, “look out, now you’re sliding over a rock two metres, like down a slide, but don’t go un- der the waterfall, there is a hole, we won’t get you out”, “Go over the tree trunk, then you can jump into the water and quickly out and then through a narrow part above the water, back to the rock and brace your legs”... A se- ries of commands, while our small troop has just enough time to occasionally look at each other and say with an excited look: “Everyt- hing is ok”. Landscapes change, bare hills, cascades, narrow passes, rapid waterfalls and a crystal clear river. We arrive at the famo- us rock 11 metres high. I hear Kićo, who says: “If I thought for two seconds, I would never
have jumped”. Okay, I understand and it’s not tough for me! I stand on the rock, take a breath, step out and fly… fly… fly… it’s already becoming uncomfortable, I fly and I want to take another breath and… splash!!! The con- tact with the water is not very pleasant, I wri- ggle and emerge. I did it! I hear screaming and the applause of the group. I don’t know if I’m shivering from the cold or from the adre- naline, but I did it. ON TOP OF THE WORLD After a little more than three hours, the sun begins to illuminate the canyon once again. The exit is in sight, and happiness is on faces. However, when you get to the land another obstacle awaits: a steep uphill climb and a goats’ path that leads back to zero point. After 40 minutes, the first to emerge in the meadow is Miroslav, a member of the expedition, and myself. And the prize - the feeling of being on top of the world, under the hot August sun, with the scent of immortelle and clean air. We shout, while Durmitor salutes us with echoes. We arrive alive, happy and hungry. We eat sandwiches with cured ham and gather our impressions, laughing and feeling good. The mountain was benevolent.
