MAJOR CHANGES TO THE WAY IN WHICH GC REFEREES ARE ASSESSED

correct answer will be shown with an explana6on. Candidates will be able to take the tests at home and at their own pace, and as o&en as they require in order to achieve the required pass mark. There will be 2 tests, each with 50 ques6ons and a pass mark for each test of 94% (47/50). One test will cover Rules 7 ‐13 and the other the remaining Rules and the WCF Refereeing Regula6ons. The tests will be available through the Croquet England website once the so&ware has been amended. A&er passing these tests, candidates will a7end a 1‐day course run by an Examining Referee with on‐court instruc6on followed by the on‐court test and a final basic, open‐book, mul6ple‐choice test of 20 ques6ons with a 30‐minute 6me limit and a pass mark of 90% (18/20). Candidates can either complete the tests and then sign up for a 1‐day course or sign up for a course with an Academy first to benefit from the support the Academy can provide

while they are preparing for the tests. Academies may decide to offer a second day of training, or Zoom sessions, either while the candidate is preparing for the on‐line tests or shortly before the 1‐day course. The courses will be included in the Fixtures Calendar as they are now. The fee for a course is set by the Academy, currently around £55. A Subscriber comple6ng the course for the first 6me, pass or fail, is eligible for a £25 subsidy from Croquet England. Some clubs and Federa6ons also offer support. The Croquet England subsidy is not available for retakes. The first course using the new system will take place at High Wycombe on 11th October run by Ian Shore and Ian Cobbold. Should the so&ware required to run the on‐line tests not be ready by the end of September, candidates will be asked to take the 50‐ques6on WCF GC Rules Exam as the first stage.

By Ian Cobbold Chair, GC Rules Commi/ee

The Golf Croquet Rules Commi7ee (GCRC) has agreed major changes to the way in which candidates wan6ng to qualify as GC Referees are assessed. It is hoped that players will find the new process less daun6ng and that this will encourage more of them to become GC Referees. At present, candidates take a wri7en 30‐ques6on exam with a 6me limit of 80 minutes and a pass mark of 70%, and an on‐court‐test. Most candidates have not sat an exam for many years, and some find the process very stressful. The on‐court test will remain but in future instead of the wri7en exam there will be a 2‐stage process of assessment using mul6ple‐choice ques6ons. Candidates will first complete 2 on‐ line tests using mul6ple‐choice ques6ons without a 6me‐limit. A&er each ques6on has been answered, the
