SIDMOUTH’S OVER 90S TOURNAMENT
By Sue Dent
The Sidmouth Croquet Club is proud to have four players in their nine6es who are s6ll ac6ve members of the Club ‐ John Dixon, Michael Hide, Roy Hubbard and Muriel Philpo7. Roy Hubbard had the idea of an Over Nine6es Tournament and sourced a trophy which he then had engraved with the statement 'Ninety but not Pegged Out'. A block tournament was set up with each of them playing singles against each other. As you would expect, compe66on was fierce but friendly and some spectacular shots were played. All the players had their moments, the games were close and the eventual winner was Michael Hide. The trophy was presented to him by the Croquet Chair. Eschewing the bar, the nonagenarians all returned home for a restora6ve cup of tea. They plan to repeat their tournament next year. We wish them well.
