Behind the Scenes at Steelforce Packaging: A Conversation with Eric Swanson By Steelforce Packaging

A t Steelforce Packaging, we believe that a strong partnership with the metal packaging industry begins with transparency, expertise, and a deep understanding of the markets we serve. As a global leader in steel and aluminum for packaging, our mission is to connect mills and manufacturers through a responsive, reliable, and informed supply chain. This quarter, we’re excited to introduce Eric Swanson, our new Director of Tinplate for North America, who brings more than 15 years of experience in the flat-rolled steel industry. His background spans work with mills, trading companies, and service centers, covering products from hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel to galvanized, Galvalume, and tinplate. “Tinplate has always been a product I highly regard,” Eric shares. “Its manufacturing process is more involved than most steel products and knowing that it plays a critical role in food distribution has always made me proud to be part of the value chain.” Eric joins Steelforce Packaging at a pivotal moment for the North American tinplate market. With shifting trade dynamics, evolving tariff policies, and ongoing conversations about domestic production capacity, the industry is navigating a period of uncertainty. He sees these challenges as opportunities for collaboration and innovation: “My goal is to create a supply chain that benefits customers, mills, and Steelforce Packaging alike. Our willingness to provide transparency in every aspect of our partnerships is how we build trust and long-term reliability.”

Steelforce Packaging’s “Glocal” strategy model—a combination of global mill relationships and local support— positions the company to deliver on that vision. North American customers gain the benefit of daily global market communication combined with a team that listens, responds quickly, and adapts to each customer’s needs. “In every region we serve, our focus is on providing high- quality material, delivered on time, with the agility to navigate even the most complex supply chain challenges. Whether it’s responding to sudden shifts in trade policy or adapting to transportation disruptions, our team is committed to ensuring customers can rely on us to keep their operations moving.” Eric’s leadership philosophy reflects this approach: “I focus on listening to everyone involved in a transaction. When you consider different perspectives and suggestions, you make everyone more knowledgeable, which ultimately leads to better results for our customers.” As the tinplate market continues to evolve, Eric is enthusiastic about reconnecting with industry colleagues he’s worked with for nearly a decade while building innovative supply solutions for the future. It’s a behind- the-scenes approach that mirrors Steelforce Packaging’s broader mission—supporting the metal packaging industry with reliability, market insight, and a commitment to shared success.
