far apart. Neither of them is very near Christ. Perhaps they have had a quarrel. Bill begins to read .his Bible and to pray more, and he realizes that he is not as near to Christ and his brother as he should be; so he moves closer. Notice, the light in the church is growing bright er. When he reaches the cross, the light is much brighter, but it still is not as bright as it should be. Bob sees hew much good it has done for Bill to draw close to Christ, and he decides to do the same thing. The light is rapidly growing brighter. As a Chris tian draws nearer to Christ, he gets nearer to other Christians as well. These bolts remind us o f First John 2:10, 11: “He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion o f stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that dark ness hath blinded his eyes.” Nov. 30. 1947 W alk and T alk Objects: A phonograph record and a compass. Lesson: Did you ever hear any one say, “ Talk is cheap” ? When people say this, they mean that the one who is talk ing probably will not do much else. I hold in my hand a phonograph rec ord. It is easy for it to talk, but it never does anything else. This record reminds me of Peter when he said to Christ on the evening before the crucifixion: “ Al though all shall be offended, yet will not I . . . If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise” (Mark 14:29, 31). Peter doubtless believed that he would be true to Christ, but he did not realize what it would cost him to be true to his Lord. Christ knew better than he what would happen, and true to Christ’s words, Peter denied his Master, saying that he did not even know Christ. However, the time came when Peter was changed. He was no longer like this record, but instead, he went straight, as a traveler would go, guided by this com pass. Peter was no longer controlled by fear. On the contrary, he was controlled by the Spirit o f God. It cost Peter something to go straight for Christ. In Acts 4:10 we read his brave words: “ Be it known unto you all, and to all the people o f Israel, that by O C T O B E R , 1947
the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.” His boldness is further mentioned in the 13th verse: “ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and per ceived that they were unlearned and ig norant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” The Lord Jesus is looking for people today who not only will talk for Him, but also will walk straight for Him, no matter what it may cost them.
A SERIOUS SHORTAGE For the first time in years, there is a serious shortage in our Free Fund, which in the past has made it possible to send subscriptions to missionaries without charge to them. We feel sure that our readers will be glad to have their atten tion called to this need, and that they will respond by investing some of the Lord’s money in this worthy cause. ®nt of ÎEuoru Kmöroft” Rev.5;9. I N the years since it was char' tered, well trained, consecrated, Bible-believing men and women have enlisted as missionaries under this Board. Many of these are already experienced Christian workers, who “ know the times” , the issues and the needs of 'our day. Some of them have come from other boards. Some are consecrated new appointees. As of December, 1946, we had sixty' one earnest workers under appoint' ment to our various foreign fields. Nine missions have thus far been placed in operation: one each in China, India, Arabia, Palestine, Ken ya Colony Africa, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Mexico. Korea already has been occupied, but is temporarily in abeyance due to war conditions. The Board also plans a mission in Japan, where the doors are now wide open to the Gospel seed-sower. In every field, our workers seek to carry on their ministry by ap proved New Testament methods. This means that the Bible is accepted and taught as the infallible Word of God to man. Our missionaries offer the glad tidings o f Christ’s atoning death for sin as the only way to God; and seek to build up each believer in a knowledge of the W ord and in a life o f obedience to its precepts. Converts also are trained in self support, self exten sion, self government, and in the knowledge and ability to “ feed the flock of God.”
