NAPERVILLE DANCE ACADEMY

Modern/Contemporary: Level 3-5 • AGES 11-18 Modern/Contemporary combines stretching and strengthening to lengthen a dancer’s muscles and body. Extensive center warmup and cross floor material is taught. Core strength is developed to facilitate execution of skills and follows traditional styles of movement. Program explores the qualities of released and off-balance dancing while daring students to find disparate qualities of stillness and explosion. Students are encouraged to develop an individual style driven by their internal life and the specificity of their bodies. Prior ballet and/or jazz experience required. **Prerequisite of the previous level or equivalent experience is required. Musical Theater Dance: Level 1-4 • AGES 7-9 Do you dream of being on Broadway someday? In this class dancers will learn about the art of musical theater as they combine singing, acting and dancing to create a spectacular performance. Each class focuses on dance technique, acting, singing skills and team building. It is perfect for someone new to musical theater and dance or a seasoned performer looking enhance their skills. Modern/Lyrical: Level 1 & 2 • AGES 7-11 Our Lyrical classes offer a first step towards our Modern/Contemporary classes while still working to build dancers’ ballet technique. Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet and jazz to create a soft style that emphasizes the storytelling quality of music. An emphasis is placed on grace and fluidity, musicality, and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement. **Prerequisite of at least one year of ballet, equivalent experience, or instructor recommendation is required.
