BRITISH AIRWAYS REOPENS ROUTES TO ISRAEL FROM APRIL
AN APP, DIGITAL STATIONS AND A TRAVEL CODE: GETT GETS TO BEN GURION AIRPORT
The Israeli Airports Authority connected with the Gett company, and together they are trying to make the experience of ordering a taxi for passengers who land in the airport more orderly and safer
A fter years of chaos in the taxi sector at Ben Gurion Airport, this month a new technological service was launched to manage and operate the array of taxis. The service, which is in the running stages and will come into full force in March, is managed by Gett, which won the tender to operate taxis in the field. On the agenda: an application and kiosks that are supposed to make ordering a taxi ride from Tel Aviv efficient and safe and give passengers and tourists entering Israel an improved and supervised service experience. So how will it work? Upon exiting the plane, passengers will be able to scan a Gett QR code, download the app and receive a code. After collecting the luggage, they will meet the usher, and give the taxi driver the code to travel to their destination. Passengers who choose not to download the application will go to the kiosks scattered in the port area, and order a taxi in a similar procedure. In a statement published by the Airports Authority, it is stated that “for the purpose of the move and to prevent the accumulation of
queues and to ensure that at any given moment there is an adequate response to the demand for taxis, the Airports Authority established a dedicated control room that monitors the loads and manages the traffic accordingly. Gett representatives will operate the control room complex equipped with advanced technological tools throughout the hours of the day and will carry out operations such as taxi queue supervision, taxi regulation and more. “The taxi drivers, who have undergone training in which the mandatory rules of conduct were explained to them, will wait for calls in a designated parking area from which they will exit according to their turn when a ride is requested. The Airports Authority said this morning that the drivers are being briefed by a professional team about the system (which is new to some of them). Provided you were at the airport Ben Gurion include a new complex for hundreds of taxis and a rest lounge equipped for their comfort. A buffet franchise will be opened instead for the enjoyment of the waiting drivers”.
British Airways (BA) airline has decided to restart Tel Aviv flights starting April this year L ike several other airlines, British Airways suspended flights to Israel due to the outbreak of the Israel- Hamas war in October last year. The British airline is planning to operate four weekly flights between London Heathrow and Ben Guiron airports. However, the outbound service from Heathrow will involve a 45-minute stay in Larnaca, Cyprus, to facilitate a crew change, as the staff of British Airways will not be permitted to stay in Tel Aviv due to security reasons. In addition to BA, the Italian airline ITA will resume its flights between Tel Aviv and Rome starting on March 1, 2024. ITA further announced it will operate flights three times a week, possibly adding summer flights based on geopolitical changes.
